Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s stellar performances have helped his way into the MVP conversations alongside Nikola Jokic.
The Serbian is a three-time MVP and is once again having a sensational season, averaging 28.9 PPG, 12.7 RPG and 10.4 APG, all while helping his Denver Nuggets side stay third in the Western Conference.
Meanwhile, SGA is putting up elite numbers, averaging 32.6 PPG, 5.2 RPG and 6.2 APG, while keeping his side at the top of a stacked West.

Both these stars have had sensational years and the NBA media has started to argue their points on who deserves to win the MVP award – which rewards the best player of the season.
Although Jokic continues putting up record numbers, SGA has been a leader for the OKC Thunder in a brilliant year for them, and this has led to him getting a lot of shouts in the MVP conversation, including from his former LA Clippers teammate.
Lou Williams was a veteran of the Clippers, the team which drafted Gilgeous-Alexander in 2018.
The three-time sixth man of the year taught SGA some valuable tricks of the trade, which he has gone on to use and become one of the stars in the league.
After a successful career, Williams moved to a broadcasting career, appearing on ‘Run it Back’ alongside former NBA player Chandler Parsons.
Speaking about SGA on the show, Williams said: “He’s the best pure scorer in the league, he’s the best player in the league and he is the clear front runner for the MVP.
“He’s done everything that we’ve asked him to do and more and he is still adding to his resume.”

Before the 2024-25 season, SGA did not have a single game with over 50 points.
However, he has achieved that four times already this season and SGA is proving to be one of the best scorers in the league.
While the Thunder remain one of the youngest teams in the NBA, they boast the best defence in the league.
This certainly is a testament to SGA as he leads them from the front and shows effort on the defensive end, averaging 1.8 steals per game and the best defensive rating on the team at 106.4.

His scoring numbers are sensational, but what propels him to be named as the MVP is his defensive effort and leadership in making Thunder a championship contender.
Jokic could end up averaging a triple-double for the season, a feat only achieved by Russell Westbrook and Oscar Robertson, but with just over 20 games to go, SGA might have done enough to clinch the award.

LeBron James has one of the best resumes in the NBA and despite playing in the 22nd year of his career, he continues displaying extraordinary performances.
Another one of those brilliant nights came when he added 34 points for the LA Lakers in their 136-115 win against the New Orleans Pelicans.
The 40-year-old has been in stellar form and his exploits in February even helped him win the Western Conference Player of the Month award, propelling James to MVP conversations.
In what seems almost every other night, King James broke another record in his brilliant performance against the Pelicans.
The four-time MVP breached the 50,000-point mark in the regular season and playoffs when he hit a three on the 8:34 minute mark in the first quarter to write his name in the history books.
While the NBA community was showing love to James on breaking another record, including his teammate Luka Doncic who tipped him to probably reach 70,000 points, Skip Bayless wasted no time in throwing digs at the four-time champion.

Bayless is known to be one of the biggest critics of James.
On his previous show ‘Undisputed’ with Shannon Sharpe, the veteran journalist used to engage in heated debates, where he would criticise James for his odd off nights in the NBA.
Despite having left TV, Bayless is still a reputed figure in American sports and shares his views on his YouTube channel and social media handles.
After James crossed the 50,000-point mark in playoff and regular season, Bayless tweeted: ‘Congratulations to LeBron James for passing 50,000 points! My only question is, what took him so long?’

James acknowledges difficulty of reaching 50,000 mark
James broke Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s all-time regular season scoring record in 2023.
However, he broke the all-time playoff record held by Michael Jordan in 2017 itself, which is an indication of how special a player he has been since entering the league in 2003.

The NBA has been shaped by legendary all-time greats, with superstars like Michael Jordan’, LeBron Jamesand so many more leaving timeless marks on the league.
While debates over the ‘greatest of all time’ continue over the likes of James and Jordan, many other deserving names often don’t get the recognition they deserve.
One such player, despite winning four rings and delivering countless clutch performances, is often overlooked in all-time great discussions. Well, not by Shaquille O’Neal.
Shaquille O’Neal gives Steph Curry the respect he deserves
O’Neal thinks Steph Curry should be considered among the all-time greats of the NBA, particularly after recent dazzling form.
O’Neal ended his career as one of the most accomplished names in the league, winning four championships and multiple other individual accolades.
He has since enjoyed a sensational TV career and is part of one of the best NBA shows, where he has many times criticised, but also given players the flowers they deserve.
Curry is one player, who he has always appreciated, and he once again showed his love for the Warriors player on ‘Inside the NBA.’
“I demand you fans start putting Steph Curry in that greatest of all-time conversation.
“Just start putting him in the conversation. There’s Michael Jordan, there’s Kobe Bryant and LeBron James. Start putting Steph in that conversation. I demand it. … I’m not saying he is [the GOAT], but let’s just have the conversation,” said O’Neal.

The Warriors lost one of their core players in Klay Thompson last summer, which was expected to be a tough spot to fill, but they put together a few free-agent signings for the 2024-25 season.
Although they started 12-3, things seemed to go downhill from there as they dropped to 10th place in the Western Conference standings.
However, the front office pulled off a trade to bring in Jimmy Butler, who wanted a way out of Miami and gave him a two-year $120 million max contract.

Since then, the team has looked extremely positive and has won nine of ten games with him in the lineup, pushing them to sixth place in the West.
Curry, whose performances have also considerably improved since the Butler trade, was appreciative of the impact the six-time All-Star has had on the team.
“Y’all know who he is and what he’s been able to do in this league.
“There’s a learning curve and a learning process for bringing in a guy like him, but we’re talking, we’re figuring it out daily.
“He’s a superstar, he’s won and lifted teams and he’s doing it with us, we’re trying to do our part around him,” said Curry in a post-game walk-off interview after the win against the Knicks.

Curry has been putting up some sensational numbers for the Golden State Warriors this season.
In his 16th year with the franchise, the point guard is averaging 24 PPG and 6.2 APG on 44.7% field-goal shooting and 39.5% from the three-point line.
Another testament to Curry’s brilliant performance this season was his 28-point performance in the 114-102 win against the New York Knicks, where he shot 5-9 from beyond the arc.
This was his fourth consecutive game, scoring over 20 points, this is including his 56-point performance against the Orlando Magic.

Arsenal dropped points in the Premier League for the second game in a row on Wednesday night after a goalless draw away at Nottingham Forest.
The result further damaged any slim title chances Mikel Arteta’s side had, especially as Liverpool extended their lead at the top to 13 points thanks to a comfortable 2-0 victory against Newcastle at Anfield.
Yet Arteta is still not giving up hope of chasing down Arne Slot’s side, saying in his post-match interview to BBC Sport after the Forest draw that he “absolutely” still stands by his comments that he won’t give up on the title race.

His view is seemingly not shared by the Arsenal fans, however, with many taking to social media to express their concern at their side’s toothlessness up top.
And with Arsenal registering just three shots on target across those two games, Gunners fans are concerned about where the goals are going to come from over the rest of the season.
“This Arsenal team might not score until the Summer transfer window opens,” one fan wrote, while another added: “we genuinely might not score a goal for the rest of the season.”
Arsenal have failed to score in two consecutive games for the first time this season.
While there was agreement that their side’s bluntness was cause for concern, Arsenal fans were split over who was to blame.
Some pointed the finger at Arteta. One fan pinned the deficiencies in Arsenal’s current squad and the lack of signings on the Spaniard, stating: “Arteta has the most say in transfers.”
Another wrote: “It’s undoubtedly Arteta’s fault. After he lost Havertz for the rest of the season, if he had made it clear to the board that getting a striker was a must, I don’t think the board [wouldn’t] make funds available.”
Others made clear that it was the Arsenal board’s fault for not signing a striker in January and leaving Arteta without a recognised striker to field. One fan wrote: “It’s not Mikel Arteta’s fault we can’t get anyone in… blame the board and not the manager that the board hired.”
Their view was shared by another who wrote: “By not signing a single player in January in the middle of a title race, the board essentially wrote the season off and said we go again in the summer. I feel for Arteta.”

After playing him from the beginning against West Ham, Arteta again opted to start Mikel Merino as his striker against Forest.
The midfielder scored two goals off the bench for the Gunners earlier in February against Leicester but, since then, has struggled to play a position he is not accustomed to.

At the City Ground on Wednesday night, he kept dropping deep into midfield to get involved in Arsenal’s buildup play, leaving them without a focal point in the box.
This was something Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo recognised would happen, revealing after the game that he played with four at the back, not five as Forest have done recently, because “Arsenal doesn’t have a striker so… there’s no need to have an extra body [in defence].”

Virgil van Dijk is having another stellar season at Liverpool.
The Dutchman has played every minute of the Reds’ Premier League campaign so far, helping his side open a 13-point gap to second-place Arsenal after a comfortable win against Newcastle on Tuesday night.
He has also been crucial to his side’s progress in other competitions, featuring in all seven of Liverpool’s Champions League victories and in both legs of their semi-final win against Tottenham in the Carabao Cup.

It was following the second-leg victory against Spurs that Jamie Carragher made the bold claim on Sky Sports that van Dijk is “too good for the highest level of football.”
Going on to compare the 33-year-old to other Premier League centre-backs past and present, Carragher added that van Dijk is “so far above it it’s a joke. The football is that easy for him.”
While Carragher’s comments are somewhat hyperbolic, van Dijk is among the Premier League’s best in his position. That said, several other top-class central defenders are up there alongside him.
With that, here are the top 10 centre-backs to have ever played in the Premier League.
Later moved back into the heart of defence, a series of major knee injuries curtailed King’s career. Towards the end of his playing days, King was picking and choosing which games he would play, missing easier fixtures to ensure he was recovered as best as possible for the most important matchdays.
Still, after 268 appearances in the Premier League and captaining Tottenham to League Cup glory in 2008, the club’s most recent major trophy to date, King merits a place on this list.

9. Ricardo Carvalho (Chelsea)
After winning the Champions League with Porto in 2004, Ricardo Carvalho followed manager Jose Mourinho to West London.
The Portuguese defender made an instant impact, playing 25 times for Chelsea during the 2004/05 season as the Blues went on to win the Premier League title for the first time.
Developing a resolute partnership with fellow centre-half John Terry, Carvalho played a crucial role as Chelsea only conceded 15 goals throughout the entire 38-game campaign, a Premier League record that has yet to be broken.
Considering the next best defences in Premier League history conceded 22 goals across a season (Chelsea in 2005/06, Manchester United in 2007/08, and Liverpool in 2018/19), it could be a record that stands the test of time.
Carvalho featured another 24 times for Chelsea as they retained their crown in the 2005/06 season, before picking up another winner’s medal in 2009/10, his final season at Stamford Bridge before departing for Real Madrid.

8. Vincent Kompany (Manchester City)
When Manchester City needed Vincent Kompany most, he stepped up. Crucial goals in title run-ins against Manchester United and Leicester City in 2011/12 and 2018/19, respectively, means the former City captain will go down in Premier League folklore.
Quick, strong and great in the air, Kompany was a supreme defender, as reflected by the four titles he won with three different managers at the Etihad. Another former holding midfielder, he was also exceptional with the ball at his feet, able to adapt to Pep Guardiola’s demands after the Spaniard replaced Manuel Pellegrini for the 2016/17 season.
While he endured a difficult first few months at Old Trafford, after adjusting to life in England, Vidic formed a formidable partnership with Rio Ferdinand, best exemplified by the five Premier League titles and one Champions League crown they won between 2006 and 2013.
An ever-present during the 2008/09 season, the Serbian played a crucial role as Manchester United set a Premier League and British record of 14 consecutive clean sheets, and 1,311 minutes without conceding, between November 2008 and February 2009.

6. Sol Campbell (Tottenham, Arsenal, Portsmouth, Newcastle)
Sol Campbell was already a top centre-half before he made the switch from Tottenham to bitter rivals Arsenal in the summer of 2001.
The 50-year-old helped take the Gunners to new levels, featuring 31 times in the league in his debut campaign as Arsenal ended three years of dominance by Manchester United to reclaim the title as part of a Premier League and FA Cup double.
The only Invincible on this list, the former England international then helped Arsenal go one better in 2003/04, becoming the first, and still, the only, English side since Preston North End in the 19th century to go an entire League campaign unbeaten on route to a second winner’s medal.
That season was part of a wider 49-games unbeaten, Campbell helping Arsenal set a new English top-flight record that still stands to this day.
After he left Arsenal for Portsmouth in 2006, there was more domestic success to come, Campbell captaining Harry Redknapp’s side to FA Cup glory in 2008.
5. Virgil van Dijk (Southampton and Liverpool)
Alongside Alisson, Virgil van Dijk was the final piece in Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool puzzle.
Signed for a then-world record fee for a defender in January 2017, the Dutchman ushered in a period of success on Merseyside, winning one Premier League, one Champions League, one FA Cup and two Carabao Cups under Klopp before the German departed at the end of the 2023/24 season.
The best ball-playing centre-back on this list, van Dijk’s ability to break a press by switching play on either foot is remarkable. His range of passing allows Liverpool to be direct when needed, and it has also led to some remarkable assists, none more so than for Sadio Mane against Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena in the Round of 16 of the 2019 Champions League.
Defensively, his reading of the game and 1v1 defending is also exemplary, as highlighted by the fact he went through the whole of the 2018/19 season without being dribbled past (according to the Premier League).
Now 33, the current Liverpool captain has an excellent chance of winning more silverware at Anfield this season under fellow countryman Arne Slot this season.

4. Jaap Stam (Manchester United)
Three seasons, three Premier League titles.
Signed by Sir Alex Ferguson from PSV ahead of the 1997/98 season, Jaap Stam only made 79 Premier League appearances during his time in Manchester. Incredibly strong and deceptively quick, however, he was an imperious defender, only losing five games out of those 79.
In helping United wrestle the Premier League title back from Arsenal in the 1998/99 season, the same year his side won the Champions League and FA Cup, Stam also helped the club make history as the first English side to win the treble.
Perhaps the greatest credit to the Dutchman is that Ferguson, in his 2015 book Leading, admitted selling him to Lazio in 2001 was ‘premature.’ Considering Stam would go on to win the Coppa Italia with Lazio in 2004 before signing for Italian giants AC Milan later that summer, it seems Ferguson was correct.

3. Tony Adams (Arsenal)
Described on the Match of the Day Top 10 podcast by all-time Premier League top scorer Alan Shearer as the “best centre-half I’ve played against,” Tony Adams is undoubtedly a Premier League great.
Immortalised with his own statue outside the stadium of the club he spent his entire career at, ‘Mr Arsenal’ captained the Gunners to four top-flight titles, including two Premier Leagues, during his time in North London.

The only criticism of Adams, levied at him by Gary Lineker on BBC Sport, is that he was “not as good a footballer [with the ball at his feet]” as some of the other top centre-halves. However, this undervalues Adams’ ability. Indeed, the former England captain’s weaker foot half-volley against Everton in May 1998, a goal that brought the Premier League to Highbury for the first time, shows he was more than capable.
2. Rio Ferdinand (West Ham, Leeds, Manchester United, QPR)
Described at his peak as a Rolls-Royce of a centre half, Rio Ferdinand could do it all.
Interestingly, Ferdinand initially struggled defensively at West Ham after coming through the club’s academy, admitting on the Stick to Football podcast that all he was “thinking about [was] impressing my mates. That was my mindset. I’d play well if I’d done a bit of skill on the forward.”
It was only after he made the move to Leeds, under the tutelage of legendary Arsenal centre back David O’Leary, that Ferdinand focused more on the defensive side of his game.
This went up another level after he made the move to Old Trafford, with Ferdinand explaining that his mindset “grew into being clean sheets, defend first.”
This shone through as Ferdinand went on to win six League titles, two League Cups and the Champions League during his 12 years at Old Trafford.
Comfortable both in possession and with the physical aspects of the game, Ferdinand is one of the best to have ever done it in England’s top flight.

1. John Terry (Chelsea)
492 Premier League appearances, 214 clean sheets, five Premier League titles, five FA Cups, three League Cups, one Champions League, and one Europa League. All for his boyhood club.
The most remarkable thing about Terry is his longevity. After making his first team debut for Chelsea at the age of 17, Terry was still playing and lifting trophies for the Blues 19 years later.
More specially, he defied Rafael Benitez’s attempts to limit his playing time in the 2012/13 season, featuring in all 38 games under Jose Mourinho at the age of 34 in Chelsea’s title-winning 2014/15 campaign.

As brave as they came with a superb understanding of the game, Terry’s ability with the ball on either foot was also excellent.
Danny Murphy pointed this out on BBC Sport, saying “Terry used to be the best at, either foot when you’re playing in midfield and you’re looking behind you where the forwards are popping up in those positions or the wide men are coming in, clipping little balls through you, over you, with the left foot or the right foot… he started so much play.”
Murphy, Lineker, Shearer and Ian Wright went on to place Terry in their all-time Premier League XI, and he is at number one in our list.

Since signing from Brentford in the summer of 2023, David Raya has proven to be an excellent goalkeeper for Arsenal.
After initially starting last season on the Gunners’ bench, Raya replaced the popular Aaron Ramsdale as Arsenal’s first-choice keeper in September 2023 and has not looked back since.
High points during his time in North London include two saves against Porto in Arsenal’s penalty shootout win in last season’s Round of 16 Champions League tie, as well as winning the Golden Glove award for the most clean sheets across the 2023/24 Premier League campaign.

His time at the Emirates has not been without its difficulties, however, one of which Raya has since revealed to club legend David Seaman was the worst moment of his Premier League career so far.
Arsenal’s 4-3 win at Luton Town was Raya’s toughest game so far
Speaking on the Seaman Says podcast, Raya revealed that Arsenal’s game at Luton last season “was the worst game I played professionally.”
The Spaniard made two costly errors that led to goals, being out-jumped by Luton striker Elijah Adebayo for the Hatters’ second goal and allowing Ross Barkley’s effort to creep under his body for their third, as Arsenal trailed Luton 3-2.
Those two errors followed mistakes in previous weeks, including in a 2-2 draw against Chelsea as Raya again cost his side a goal, with the Spaniard going on to categorise that period of his Arsenal career as “very bad.”
However, Raya also marks the game against Luton as a turning point, explaining: “From there, I think we’ve seen an increasing David in goal… from Luton to the end of the season, it was a very, very good period personally.”
Indeed, the 29-year-old bounced back well, playing in all but one of Arsenal’s 16 wins in their last 18 games as they just missed out on the title to Manchester City.
Luton would go on to be relegated from the Premier League, and they now sit bottom of the Championship after another difficult season.

Raya had his teammates to thank for bailing him out at Kenilworth Road.
Under the lights on a cold December evening at a hostile and tightly-packed ground, Arsenal twice took the lead thanks to strikes from Brazilian forwards Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus.
Luton fought back to level both times, however, equalising first through defender Gabriel Osho before Adebayo’s header made it 2-2.

And when Barkley fired underneath the Spaniard to put Luton 3-2 up, it looked as though the Hatters would be in for a famous win.
It was not to be, however, Kai Havertz equalising for Mikel Arteta’s side before Declan Rice broke Luton hearts, heading in a Martin Odegaard cross in the seventh minute of stoppage time to send the Arsenal fans in the away end into raptures.

As the Formula One 2025 season begins with pre-season testing at the Bahrain International Circuit, the Middle Eastern track is crucial to the six rookies gearing up for their first full Formula One campaign.
Among them, Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli led the morning session on Wednesday, followed by Red Bull’s Liam Lawson.
Fellow newcomer Jack Doohan placed sixth on the AM timesheet, amid suggestions that his seat at Alpine is already under pressure.
Doohan’s Formula One debut follows his time as the team’s reserve driver, but the Australian rookie is facing rising scrutiny from his replacement, Franco Colapinto.
Colapinto, who started nine races for Williams last season as their reserve driver, is regarded as Alpine’s plug-and-play option if Doohan doesn’t perform.

Jolyon Palmer thinks Jack Doohan must focus on his job
During Sky Sports commentary of the first day of pre-season testing in Bahrain, the former Renault driver, Joylon Palmer, discussed the pressure facing Doohan at Alpine and what he needs to do to stop the rumours.
“I think Jack just has to focus on his job,” said Palmer.
“The questions [about his seat] are such a tiresome distraction for a rookie driver.”
Looking at drivers on the grid, Palmer said that Formula One is more competitive than ever, with an incredible level of talent and depth across the field.
He added: “So for Jack to do a solid job he needs to have full focus on what he is doing corner by corner, his diet, his training.
“What he doesn’t need is to be asked why Colapinto is in the team. He needs to deliver performance and stop the rumours.

Alpine stop questions on Franco Colaptine as Jack Doohan gives response at Formula One 75
During a press conference at the Formula One 75 event in London, Doohan faced questions from the media on Alpine’s shock signing of Colapinto.
According to journalist Sam Cooper on BlueSky, there was some “early tension” during the event’s media sessions.
