Succession is finally returning to our screens for season 4 in 2023 but how many episodes will the new installment have in total?

Following the incredibly well-received adaptation of The Last Of Us, HBO is providing viewers with the next must-watch TV series of 2023 as Succession is returning for its highly-anticipated fourth season.

Understandably, fans have been eagerly awaiting the show’s return but what do we know about season 4 – from its release date and plot to how many episodes it will feature?

Succession season 4 release date and plot preview

After an agonizing 15-month wait, Succession finally returns to HBO and HBO Max in the US on Sunday, March 26, 2023, and will follow a day later internationally.

Following the events of season 3, the long-awaited sale of media conglomerate Waystar Royco to tech visionary Lukas Matsson inches closer to completion.

However, the prospect of the landmark sale provokes division within the Roy family as they deal with the existential angst of facing an uncertain future once the deal is finalized.

Cue an almighty power struggle as the Roys weigh up a future where their cultural and political power is severely curtailed.

How many episodes are in Succession season 4?

Season 4 of Succession will consist of 10 episodes in total.

The number of episodes should come as little surprise to veteran fans of the series as both seasons 1 and 2 also had 10 chapters each, while season 3 only had nine due to Covid-related production issues.

Following the season 4 premiere on March 26, new episodes of Succession will be airing weekly on Sundays until the season finale airs on May 28.

The full release schedule for Succession season 4 is as follows:

  • Episode 1 – The Munsters | March 26
  • Episode 2 – Rehearsal | April 2
  • Episode 3 – Connor’s Wedding | April 9
  • Episode 4 | April 16
  • Episode 5 | April 23
  • Episode 6 | April 30
  • Episode 7 | May 7
  • Episode 8 | May 14
  • Episode 9 | May 21
  • Episode 10 | May 28

Will there be a season 5?

No, Succession will not be returning for season 5.

That’s because season 4 has been confirmed as the show’s final installment.

Originally, the show’s executive producer Georgia Pritchett said that Succession would not go beyond five seasons.

However, in the run-up to season 4, it was announced by showrunner Jesse Armstrong that it would be serving as Succession’s final chapter after all.

Speaking to The New Yorker, Armstrong explained the decision to conclude the show with its fourth season: “The decision to end solidified through the writing and even when we started filming: I said to the cast, ‘I’m not a hundred percent sure, but I think this is it.'”
