Sadio Mane currently has no plans to return to the Premier League with Liverpool despite facing an uncertain future at Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich,
So say BILD; the German publication providing an update on the situation facing a man who made headlines for all the wrong reasons last week.
As if Bayern’s 3-0 Champions League quarter-final defeat to Manchester City was not damaging enough, a well-publicised alternation between Mane and team-mate Leroy Sane at full-time threatened to overshadow even one of the club’s worst European performances in recent memory.
Mane was then dropped from the Bayern squad for the weekend’s 1-1 draw at Hoffenheim. A 300,000 euros fine, Sky Germany add, is the most received by any player in Bayern’s entire history.
This, coupled with Mane’s underwhelming performances on the pitch, have some suggesting that a man who finished second in the Ballon D’Or voting just last year could be cast adrift by a Bayern side who invested £35 million in bringing him to the Allianz Arena less than 12 months ago.
Is Liverpool icon Sadio Mane leaving Bayern Munich already?
“From what I’m hearing, Bayern will try everything to offload Sadio Mane in the summer. From a sporting point of view, Thomas Tuchel has no plans with Mane as he doesn’t fit his system. This is my information,” Sky reporter Florian Plettenberg explains.
“(People at Bayern) view Mane very critically.”
At the age of 31 – and following a season interrupted by injury, poor form and off-field issues – it remains to be seen what stature of club are willing to offer Mane an escape route from his Bavarian hell.
BILD believe that a second spell at Liverpool is ‘currently not an issue’. Jurgen Klopp’s side have missed Mane’s intensity and flexibility. But, in truth, the former Southampton talisman started to look his age even during those final few months at Anfield.
“When are we getting to the point where we admit that Sadio Mane was what the Germans call ein Fehlkauf? ‘A wrong transaction’. A ‘wrong purchase’. We are getting to that point now,” reporter Manuel Veth tells the Gegenpressing Bundesliga podcast.
“He looked so lost in that Freiburg game (last week).”
“Do you know what he reminds me of? He is like the Premier League, reverse-Timo Werner,” Veth adds.
“I think he was offside a couple of times against Freiburg. His runs always seem to be off. His chance conversation is terrible.
“If this doesn’t work out – he’s going to turn 32 next year – what is his future going to look like?”
