Crystal Palace could soon sign Liverpool No.8 Naby Keita on a free transfer if talk of Adi Hütter replacing Roy Hodgson is true.

What’s the story?

Well, there are two rumours about Crystal Palace and Liverpool that are crucial to this opinion.

Firstly – as detailed by Fabrizio RomanoKeita is expected to leave Anfield when his contract expires in July.

Secondly – according to Kurier in Austria – Hütter is going to replace Hodgson at Selhurst Park.

So, why does this mean Crystal Palace could sign Keita?

Well, it was actually Hütter who helped the Guinea international’s career explode when he signed him from little known Istres for RB Salzburg back in 2014.

Keita went on to make 44 appearances under the Austrian, scoring six goals while also providing three assists before he ended up joining RB Leipzig in 2016.

The 28-year-old then spent two years in Germany before sealing a £52.75m move to Liverpool in 2018, so he is presumably grateful to Hütter for giving him a springboard to launch his career.

Now, we aren’t suggesting that Hütter and Keita are best friends and will be desperate to reunite simply because they worked together at RB Salzburg.

However, Hütter could certainly be tempted to sign the Guinean when he arrives at Crystal Palace – as expected – given the fact he will be available on a free transfer.

Naby Keita could shine at Crystal Palace

Of course, Keita has some very concerning injury issues, but if Crystal Palace do sign him and manage to keep him out of the treatment room, they will have a fine midfield option on their hands.

The south Londoners could certainly do with an injection of quality in that department.

Crystal Palace currently use the likes of Jeffrey Schlupp, Will Hughes and Luka Milivojevic in their midfield regularly, players who can definitely be upgraded on to match the levels of Cheick Doucoure and Eberechi Eze.

Therefore, a move for Keita would not just be a vanity signing.

Be sure to keep an eye on Crystal Palace, as Hütter will surely want plenty of signings to put his stamp on things if he does take over.
