Chris Sutton has issued his prediction on the crunch final day fixture between Everton and AFC Bournemouth. Their match is crucial for the Toffees’ Premier League survival.
The Goodison Park side welcome the Cherries to Merseyside on Sunday knowing that a win will ensure their safety. But any points heading back to the south coast may leave the door open for Leeds United or Leicester City. The Whites and Foxes must better Everton’s result.
Everton go into the final day of the Premier League season sitting outside of the relegation zone by two points. But even a draw with Bournemouth may not be good enough for Sean Dyche’s side. Leicester hold the better goal difference among the three fighting for survival.
What do Everton need to avoid relegation on the final day?
Should Leicester beat West Ham United at the King Power Stadium, Dean Smith’s team put the pressure back on Everton to edge Bournemouth. A stalemate at Goodison will be good enough for the Foxes with a win with their minus-18 goal difference to Everton’s minus-24.
Everton have already lost twice to Bournemouth this term, as well. The Cherries dealt the Toffees successive defeats in November during Frank Lampard’s tenure. Gary O’Neil’s south coast squad won 4-1 in the EFL Cup before triumphing 3-0 just four days later in the league.
Dyche might now have to avoid making it three defeats in a row to Bournemouth if Everton are to avoid relegation on the final day. Just a win would guarantee their survival regardless of results elsewhere. While a draw would only be enough to pip Leicester if the Foxes lose.
Leeds can also overtake Everton with a win and the Toffees failing to beat Bournemouth on Sunday. But the Whites must beat Tottenham Hotspur at Elland Road and overturn a three-goal margin in their goal differences. Leeds are in the worst place among the three sides.
What is Chris Sutton’s prediction for Everton vs Bournemouth?
Sutton does not expect Sunday to be easygoing for Everton in his prediction for their game against Bournemouth, either. But the Celtic hero has backed the Blues in his column for the Daily Mail. He has tipped the Toffees to survive a nerve-jangling 90 minutes and to win 1-0.
“It will be a nervous day for Sean Dyche and his team if this game is as close as I think it will be,” Sutton wrote. “But I reckon they’ll have enough to pull through and survive.”
