Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are thought to be trailing behind Newcastle United in the race to sign James Maddison this summer.
James Maddison is a man in demand following Leicester City’s relegation with Newcastle United leading the race.
That is according to the Daily Mail, who claim that Arsenal, Manchester City and Tottenham all fancy signing Maddison this summer.
However, Newcastle are claimed to be the ‘early favourites’ for Maddison’s signature having also chased him last season.
Leicester will inevitably lose players this summer having suffered relegation to the Championship.
Maddison and winger Harvey Barnes are the two players attracting the most interest, with Leicester hoping to sell for around £80million combined.
Reports from the Daily Mail over the weekend suggested that Leicester are seeking a deal worth around £50million for Maddison.
That was before relegation was confirmed though and the interested clubs will be trying to grind the price tag down.
James Maddison can be Newcastle United’s creative star
Newcastle’s pursuit of Maddison didn’t end in success last year but they have a much better chance this time around.
The Magpies have secured Champions League football and can give Maddison the chance to play on the biggest stage.
Eddie Howe has done a great job of getting the best out of Newcastle’s midfield players.
Joelinton, Joe Willock and Sean Longstaff have really kicked on under Howe and Bruno Guimaraes speaks for himself.
Newcastle don’t yet have their chief playmaker in the final third though and are lacking a player with real creativity around the box.
Maddison has the ability to find that killer pass and could take Newcastle to another level – if the Magpies can secure a deal.
