» » » 'So upset': Arsenal told £12m star angry with teammates as club's PL title hopes end

Pat Nevin has shared what he noticed about Jorginho during Arsenal’s 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest on Saturday at the City Ground, which ended their Premier League title hopes.

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal, who were outclassed by Brighton last time out, knew they had to win to keep up their slip hopes of pipping Manchester City to the Premier League title.

But inside 20 minutes, Taiwo Awoniyi was opening the scoring, and shortly afterwards, Nevin stated that January signing Jorginho was ‘furious’ with his teammates and ‘so upset’ because of the lack of quality they were showcasing, as he told BBC Sport.

It may have been only a matter of months since Jorginho secured a £12 million transfer from Chelsea to Arsenal (Sky Sports), but he is making sure to act like he has been at the club for years.

The 31-year-old has won the big trophies in his career before – from helping Italy win Euro 2020 to Champions League glory at his former club.

But that ultimate prize, of being champion of England, has dodged him and his teammates in a morale-sapping fashion, so it’s no surprise he was annoyed at the levels dropping yesterday.

“Jorgingo is furious with his teammates, ” said Nevin. “He is getting so upset with his teammates. He feels like they should be playing a lot better.

“Despite being a relatively new player [to the group] he is still trying to drive standards and gee up his teammates.”

HAVE ARSENAL BOTTLED THE PREMIER LEAGUE TITLE RACE?

That seems to be the most asked question after Arteta and his players blew a pretty substantial lead at the top of the Premier League table.

On the one hand, it’s no shame in losing to this Manchester City side. Not only is it going down as one of the greatest ever, but they are also on the verge of a treble.

But it’s not Man City losing a two-goal lead at the London Stadium, conceding three goals to a team that’s now relegated or getting well-beat by Brighton.

So, perhaps the answer to ‘have Arsenal bottled winning the Premier League title?’ is a big fat, yes.
