Jose Enrique has lauded Arsenal transfer target Joao Cancelo, who is currently on-loan at Bayern Munich, as a ‘top, top player’ for Manchester City.
Ahead of the summer transfer window re-opening, there is talk that Joao Cancelo, who decided to leave treble-chasing Manchester City in January, could join a team like Arsenal.
But former Liverpool left-back Enrique stated on Instagram ‘the problem’ with his possible exit is the transfer fee the Premier League champions will demand for the versatile fullback.
Back in 2019, Manchester City paid £60 million for Cancelo’s talents (Sky Sports), and during that period, he has been an unreal performer for the club.
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta would have seen it first-hand, hence why he is keen to boost his fullback spot by securing the 28-year-old’s signature.
Pep Guardiola probably won’t be too bothered about what happens with Cancelo when he returns from his Bayern spell in the summer because he is on the verge of winning the treble, but that doesn’t mean those in the Etihad boardroom won’t demand top-dollar for the player.
“The problem is the transfer fee that Manchester City is going to ask for him,” said Enrique. “He is a top, top player.”
CANCELO WOULD BE AN UNREAL SIGNING FOR ARSENAL
It wouldn’t be a surprise to see Cancelo leave Man City in the summer because his relationship seems to have headed towards the wrong direction under Pep Guardiola.
That opens the door for an elite team to sign him. Arsenal are now in that bracket after securing Champions League football again.
But would Man City be willing to sell the player to the Gunners knowing how far they pushed them in the Premier League title this season? And it needs to be remembered that Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko played a part in that.
