The option to clear or delete your search history on any given social media app is indeed a blessing, but some TikTok users claim they aren’t able to do it anymore in 2023.
Not only is it convenient to find anything under the sun on social media at the tip of your fingertips and we don’t even have to tell you about the sneaky factor it boasts; but at times, you may want to erase the traces of all the things you’ve looked up for, for whatever reason.
As of Wednesday, May 25, a number of TikTok users have shown concerns about not being able to delete their search history. If you didn’t know how it’s done, we have explained it below.
TikTok users claim they can’t delete their search history
Several TikTok users are panicking as they aren’t able to delete their search history on TikTok.
The video-sharing platform stores up to seven days worth of searches, and consists of an option that allows you to get rid of them entirely.
This feature is especially useful when you don’t want others to know the content you have accessed via the platform or in some cases of virtual stalking (harmless, of course!) when you don’t want your crush to see their name pop up on the top of your search results.
But, some users have noticed that the app isn’t allowing them to clear the searches, causing major concerns about privacy.
The app hasn’t addressed the apparent issue
Taking away users’ ability to delete their search history is a big deal and TikTok hasn’t officially made any announcement to confirm that the feature has, in fact, been taken down for good.
So, you may want to wait for some time before jumping to conclusions as it may as well just be a temporary glitch that’s affecting one of the most important features. If it’s unsettling still, you can always reach out to the TikTok team.
Meanwhile, here’s how the panic-stricken users are taking it:
One user said: “TikTok took off deleting your search history, so now you have to search a bunch of random things so your best friend doesn’t see that you searched his name again.”
“TikTok doesn’t let you delete your search history anymore?” asked another.
Posting a funny reaction one user wrote: “Me after seeing TIkTok changed the classic text font and removed the ability to delete specific search history.”
