Gabby Agbonlahor has expressed his ‘surprise’ at Arsenal not handing a longer contact to their star boy, Bukayo Saka.
The 21-year-old signed a new deal at Arsenal this week, until 2027, but for Agbonlahor, they should have done what Tottenham and Chelsea do and that’s offer him a ‘seven-year’ deal, as he told talkSPORT Breakfast (24/05/23).
Chelsea fans will probably testify, given their current mess, that handing out these long-term deals isn’t probably the answer, you never know what is around the corner.
The most important thing here is that Bukayo Saka is penned down for the future – and Arsenal fans will be hoping others now follow suit, there is talk about Martin Odegaard and Ben White.
But for Saka, it’s a deserved deal because he has taken his game to much higher levels this season, scoring 13 goals and supplying 11 assists in the Premier League.
Added to that, he has become an even more crucial member of Gareth Southgate’s England squad, as Agbonlahor thinks the all-action forward is now worth, at least, ‘£100 million’.
“He is 21, 134 Premier League games, 30 goals and 26 games for England,” said Agbonlahor.
“Outstanding record. What I love when I watch him is how strong he is. You know them smaller players and you think ‘oh, they are going to get bullied’.
“He absolutely bullies defenders. 6ft2 defenders. He is bullying them. He is strong. Aggressive. He is one of the best wingers in the world, at the moment.
“What an asset he is, at the moment. I am surprised they didn’t put him on a longer contract. Spurs and Chelsea do them six or seven years contracts. He is over £100 million player, for sure and he is going to get better and better.”
SAKA CAN REACH HIGHER LEVELS
The 2022 World Cup in Qatar was perhaps the highest level Saka has played at, but at club level, he is yet to reach the top.
That will come upon Arsenal’s return to the Champions League next season where their star boy will be up against the best of the best.
This will be Saka’s time to shine, and if he puts in similar performances, then his stock will only go through the roof.
