Dean Saunders says Manchester City right-back Kyle Walker would be a ‘good signing’ for Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool.

The former Premier League striker wants Trent Alexander-Arnold to be pushed into midfield after his masterclass as a number ten for England and then Liverpool to ‘buy a right-back’.

He threw forward the names of Newcastle United star Kieran Trippier, but acknowledged that won’t happen, before pushing towards Kyle Walker’s name, as he told talkSPORT (21/06/23 at 6:25 am).

Given that Liverpool’s midfield needs refreshing, then it would be ideal that one of the answers to their problems is staring Klopp in the face.

Added to that, it’s not like Trent has just come off an outstanding season, if anything, it’s one of his worst in recent times and he only started to showcase some magic when he would tuck into midfield whilst Liverpool were in possession.

Either way, Saunders wants to see Walker, who is a five-time Premier League winner and just won the Treble, to make a switch to Anfield.

“I said play Trent in midfield, he’s class,” said Saunders. “Buy a right-back and play Trent in midfield.

“Who are you going to get? There is Trippier. Kyle Walker or Reece James. I am not sure they would get any of them, but that’s the type. If you buy one of them.

“But Kyle Walker, he would be a good signing for Liverpool.”

Alexander-Arnold in midfield would cause havoc

Someone should ask the England star himself what he would prefer – playing at right-back or the middle of the park?

It wouldn’t be a surprise if he said the latter because it means less defensive work.

From an attacking side, the plus to playing as a fullback is that there isn’t anyone over your shoulder, whilst in midfield, you have to constantly check your shoulders, but that’s something that Alexander-Arnold can deal with, no doubt, it’s just a case of putting him in that position for the long-term.
