Kevin Hatchard has labelled Liverpool transfer target and RB Leipzig centre-back Josko Gvardiol as the ‘real deal’.
The European football expert added that ‘it wouldn’t surprise’ him if Josko Gvardiol secures a summer transfer to the Premier League, as he told talkSPORT.
The 21-year-old isn’t just shining brightly on the domestic stage, but also for Croatia on the world stage, reaching the semi-finals of the World Cup and the final of the UEFA Nations League.
Whilst there is a lot of talk around Liverpool’s midfield this summer, it has also been suggested that they are looking for a left-footed centre-back and Gvardiol is on their radar.
The only issue for Jurgen Klopp and Co. is the transfer fee that will be on his head and the rumours that Pep Guardiola wants him at Manchester City.
Nonetheless, Hatchard, who covers Bundesliga football, lauded the talents of the Croatia international and backed him to move.
“There is a lot of buzz about Josko Gvardiol,” said Hatchard. “He is a guy that I have watched a lot in Germany and he is the real.
“He is an excellent defender. He can bring the ball out beautifully. I think Leipzig would want to keep him for one more season, but we know with RB Leipzig that everyone has their price.
“So, it wouldn’t surprise me if a Premier League club was able to sign Josko Gvardiol.”
Gvardiol would elevate Liverpool’s backline
It can’t be ignored but Liverpool’s defence went backwards this season and Jurgen Klopp needs to make some changes.
Not boot players out, but bring in more competition and ensure the same problems of this season don’t showcase themselves again.
A player of Gvardiol’s talents would bring power, passing ability and a no-nonsense style to Liverpool’s backline, plus his potential link-up with someone like Virgil van Dijk would excite the fans.
