Several businesses and establishments have been burned down by the deadly Hawaii fire, but is Andaz Maui at Wailea Resort affected by it?

The authorities in Hawaii are anticipating a rise in the death toll in the coming days as rescue operations are underway. The number of fatalities is reportedly at least 67 at the time of writing, as bodies are still being hauled from the ocean after wildfire wreaked havoc on parts of Maui Island.

Is Andaz Maui at Wailia Resort affected by the fire?

Hyatt’s Andaz Maui confirmed in an update on Facebook that their property remains unaffected by the Hawaii fire and they are committed to continuing their services during the tough time.

The statement reads: “We remain committed to caring for our guests, colleagues, and our Maui community during this difficult time. Currently, Andaz Maui at Wailea Resort is still operating and unaffected by the fires at this time.”

The beachfront resort urged people to avoid non-essential travel to the Island as they are “closely monitoring” the active situation.

The aerial images of Maui Island show almost all properties located on Front Street in Lahaina reduced to ashes in the wake of the wildfires that are believed to have started last week.

Businesses and establishments in Lahaina are hit hard

The fire tore through Lahaina, destroying most of the historical sites and places of prominence it housed for decades.

The major tourist attraction of Lahaina, the Banyan tree on Front Street, was engulfed in flames and some visuals shared by the locals show most of it burned down.

Several restaurants including Cheeseburger in Paradise and Fleetwood’s were also lost in the fire, but the owners of the popular dining places have vowed to rebuild their businesses.

And, just when people started to worry about the condition of the Maria Lanakila Catholic Church on Front Street, a pastor claimed it is “still standing”.

Lahaina’s iconic Pioneer Inn hotel was also among the major tourist attractions to be burned down in the fire.

Maui Island suffers from deadliest wildfires

Maui Island was engulfed in flames with almost no warning, and the casualties from the natural disaster are believed to be the worst after the tsunami in 1960 that claimed 61 lives.

The severe damages caused by the fire have resulted in a power shortage across the Island. That has also cut off phone communication.

The charred bodies are still being recovered while locals have reported sightings of remains of the victims on the seawall.

The names of the victims haven’t been disclosed, but a Maui woman has created a list of missing persons with about 1200 names marked to help friends and families affected by the fires.
