West Ham United are interested in snapping up Stuttgart’s former Arsenal defender Konstantinos Mavropanos.
Ex-Arsenal defender Konstantinos Mavropanos is now being eyed for a return to the Premier League with West Ham United.
That is according to The Sun, who claim that West Ham United and Wolverhampton Wanderers both want Mavropanos.
It’s stated that both clubs want to land a new centre back this summer and Mavropanos is on their wish lists.
The report adds that whilst Newcastle United have looked at Mavropanos, they currently have other options ahead of the Greek star.
Mavropanos was snapped up by Arsenal in 2018 as Sven Mislintat lured him over from PAS Giannina.
The Greek defender – hailed as ‘fearless’ by Ian Wright – only made seven league appearances for Arsenal before being sent on loan to Nurnberg.
Mislintat then took Mavropanos on a two-year loan deal before sealing a permanent deal worth just £3million last summer.
The 25-year-old has been a mainstay for Stuttgart and it’s almost a surprise that Mislintat hasn’t tried to take Mavropanos to his new club Ajax.
West Ham and Wolves are now lurking with Mavropanos potentially fancying a return to England this summer.
Napoli also moving for West Ham United target Konstantinos Mavropanos
West Ham won’t have it all their own way in their pursuit of Mavropanos though.
Not only will David Moyes and co have to take on Wolves and potentially Newcastle, but also Napoli.
Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg claims on Twitter that Italian champions Napoli are ‘pushing’ to sign Mavropanos.
Plettenberg adds that Mavropanos ‘wants to leave’ Stuttgart this season and a deal worth around €20million (£17million).
It’s stated that no verbal agreement is in place yet but Napoli are in talks to land the former Arsenal man.
West Ham’s new technical director Tim Steidten will be well aware of Mavropanos from his time in German football, but this race could be difficult for the Hammers to win.
