Walter Kim proves to be a key character in season 2 of The Lincoln Lawyer but who exactly is he, how is he relevant to the central case and what happened to him by the end of episode 10?

*WARNING: Spoilers ahead for The Lincoln Lawyer season 2* — The enthralling second season of The Lincoln Lawyer focuses on the death of wealthy property developer Mitchell Bondurant as Mickey Haller is hired to defend an entrepreneurial chef and community leader Lisa Trammell who has been accused of his murder.

Who is Walter Kim in The Lincoln Lawyer?

Walter Kim is a building inspector who worked on a new skyscraper that Mitchell Bondurant’s company had been working on with Argel Construction, a contracting firm owned by business magnate Alex Grant.

Played in the Netflix series by Keong Sim of Dead to Me, Glee and Sweet Home fame, Walter Kim appears sporadically during season 2 but he plays a key role in the case.

Early on in the season, we learn that Mitchell Bondurant had a restraining order against Lisa Trammell which he helped to file thanks to testimony and a photo provided by Walter Kim.

In episode 8, Kim appears in court during Lisa’s trial where Mickey attempts to cast doubt on his witness testimony by revealing a video of the incident his photo depicts, revealing the wider context behind the altercation between Lisa Trammell and Mitchell Bondurant.

What did he do?

In the season 2 finale, it’s revealed that Walter Kim was the real perpetrator behind Mitchell Bondurant’s death.

Later on in the trial, we are shown a threatening email that Mitchell Bondurant had sent to Alex Grant warning him that he would expose suspicious activity that Grant was involved with.

It’s revealed that Grant bribed Walter Kim to falsely certify the work his construction company had carried out on Bondurant’s building in the hopes of getting the high-rise completed quicker and more cheaply.

However, while the email obviously sent a warning to Alex Grant, it also threatened Kim and reveal his own shady dealings which would ruin his career if they ever got out.

This prompted him to kill Mitchell Bondurant himself and frame Lisa Trammell as her feud with the property developer was already well-documented.

As Cisco discovers when re-examining the case, Kim stole Lisa’s gardening gloves and the hammer from her tool kit and used them to murder Bondurant before planting the murder weapon and the bloody gloves so that they would incriminate Lisa.

Another key piece of evidence was a shard of broken glass found at the crime scene. It turned out that this belonged to a mirror that Walter kept in his work tool kit and Cisco suspects the building inspector used this to distract Bondurant before he bludgeoned his target to death with Lisa’s hammer.

What happens to Kim by the end of season 2?

By the end of The Lincoln Lawyer season 2, Walter Kim disappears and is presumed dead.

As Cisco looks into Kim’s disappearance, he starts to suspect that Alex Grant is behind it.

During the trial earlier in the season, Mickey mentioned that Grant is one of the leading bidders to be selected to build the Athletes’ Village for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

Haller and Cisco suspect that Grant had Kim killed in an effort to keep the bid on track as the building inspector was the only person who could reveal the truth about the bribes Grant paid him which would derail any hope of Grant winning the Olympic Village contract if they ever came to light.

Grant likely managed this through his family connections. As Haller revealed at the trial, Grant is a member of an Armenian crime family run by his father Sasha Kazarian who is currently in prison for crimes including racketeering, fraud and conspiracy to commit murder – so he would almost certainly have the means of making someone disappear.

To make matters worse for the Lincoln Lawyer, Mickey Haller kicked the hornets’ nest when he dragged Alex Grant’ through the dirt at the trial and also knows about the bribes he paid to Walter Kim, which Legal Siegal warns at the end of episode 10 could make him a target too, setting up a potentially deadly season 3.
