Glenn Murray can’t understand why Harry Kane would want to secure a transfer away from Tottenham Hotspur this summer.

The former striker thinks Harry Kane should stay put and it ‘doesn’t surprise’ him that Tottenham’s transfer negotiations with Bayern Munich are dragging on, as he told BBC Radio 5 Live Sport.

A big reason for that is a certain Daniel Levy. Over the years, he has proven to be as stubborn as they have come, including with how he is dealing with this Kane situation.

Bayern Munich have submitted a final bid for Kane – various prices have been reported – but it has been claimed that Levy is yet to respond, even though the German club set a deadline for a response.

Whilst this is just dragging on, Kane scored four goals during Tottenham’s pre-season friendly against Shakhtar Donetsk on Sunday.

On one hand, this could be his final game in a Spurs shirt, or just a hint of what is to come this season under Ange Postecoglou, with Murray telling him to stay.

“How long do you give it,” asked Murray. “This has rumbled on all summer and they have made it clear that Harry is their number one target.

“But there does come a point where, even a huge club like Bayern Munich, just have to move on. It doesn’t surprise me that it has got to this situation with Levy, to be honest. We see it year in and year out with Harry Kane.

“He has been top of the transfer speculation for a number of years now. I just can’t see him leaving. I don’t understand why you would leave when he is so close to breaking that Premier League record and next year he would have his pick of clubs.”

Kane next summer

In 12 months, he will be a free agent, that’s if he doesn’t sign a new contract in the meantime, and he will have a host of clubs knocking on his door.

If there is a chance that the England captain signs a new deal, then it’s understandable that Spurs are trying to keep hold of him.

But if he has no intentions to do that, and Levy knows about it, then they need to remember that they risk him going to another Premier League rival in 2024, including a certain Mauricio Pochettino at Chelsea.
