Alan Shearer thinks Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool got ‘criticism’ for not signing Moises Caicedo from Brighton and Hove Albion this summer.

The 21-year-old ended up securing a club-record transfer to Chelsea, even though Jurgen Klopp openly spoke about wanting Moises Caicedo at Liverpool.

As a result, Alan Shearer thinks that it was a ‘frustrating’ transfer window for the Merseyside giants, as he told BBC Radio 5 Live Sport.

That’s why the Premier League’s all-time leading goalscorer thinks that it’s impressive that they have started the season in the manner in which they have.

On Saturday, the Reds came from behind to secure a late win over Wolves to maintain their unbeaten start to the new season.

Whilst Moises Caicedo wasn’t signed up, Dominik Szoboszlai, who has received rave reviews from Paul Merson, Ryan Gravenberch and Wataru Endo, were the ones added to refresh the club’s midfield instead.

Liverpool not signing Moises Caicedo

“It probably was a bit of a frustrating transfer window for them because two of their man targets they couldn’t get, with Caicedo going to Chelsea,” said Shearer.

“It was a tough one for them to take because they also got a little bit of criticism for the way they went around it.

“So, to start the way they have done, then I think it’s another positive.”

Difficult start for Caicedo

Dubbed a ‘quite rare’ player by former Arsenal man Kieran Gibbs, it has been a tough start to life at Chelsea for Caicedo.

The defensive-minded midfielder proceeded to give away a penalty against West Ham on debut and he still is trying to find his feet.

It just goes to show that even if you have the experience of Premier League football under your belt, then time is still needed, as many will watch closely to see how he progresses at Chelsea during these coming months.
