Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta does not think that Kieran Tierney is good enough to play for his first team, but the Gunners defender showed on Friday evening that he could prove him wrong.

Kieran Tierney has had injury problems during his time at Arsenal, and last season, Oleksandr Zinchenko took his place at left-back.

In the summer transfer window, Arsenal decided to send Tierney out on loan to Real Sociedad for this season.

Arsenal-owned Kieran Tierney stars for Scotland

Sociedad are aiming to finish in the top four of the La Liga table this season and will also play in the UEFA Champions League.

Tierney may have been moved away from Arsenal on a temporary basis, but he remains a key player for Scotland.

And, the 26-year-old showed that on Friday evening.

Scotland beat Cyprus 3-0 in European Championship Qualifying Group A.

Scott McTominay, Ryan Porteous and John McGinn scored the goals for Scotland.

It was a fifth successive win for Scotland, who now need just two points from their remaining three qualifiers to book their place at the Euro 2024 finals.

Tierney started on the left of a three-man central defence.

Scotland lined up in a 3-4-2-1 formation.

The Arsenal-owned defender played for the entire 90 minutes.

Tierney played two key passes, had a pass accuracy of 89.3%, took 105 touches, attempted four dribbles, made two tackles and one interception, and put in one cross.

Media praise for Scotland ace Kieran Tierney

Scottish media was really impressed by Tierney.

GlasgowLive gave the defender 7 out of 10 and noted: “Another composed performance by the Arsenal man.

“Offers an outlet when playing out from the back and a left-footed centre-back is one of the rarest commodities in football. Wasn’t troubled at all.”

The Scotsman also rated Tierney’s performance as 7 out of 10.

The report said about the defender: “A straightforward evening for the now Real Sociedad loanee.

“A good few crisp passes and a couple that went astray, he was largely on the fringes as the action was concentrated elsewhere.

“The one scare came when he hit the deck holding his knee late on, but he was soon back on his feet.”
