Celtic midfielder Reo Hatate looks set to sign a new contract and end rumours surrounding a potential move to Tottenham Hotspur.
Reo Hatate is poised to commit his future to Celtic despite rumours linking him with a move to Tottenham Hotspur.
That is according to the Daily Mail, who claim that Celtic are now ‘close’ to striking an agreement with Hatate.
The Bhoys pounced to sign Hatate for just £1.4million in January 2022 as Ange Postecoglou used his knowledge of the Japanese market.
Hatate has proven to be an absolute bargain, racking up 14 goals and 14 assists in 71 games for Celtic.
Unsurprisingly, Celtic want to keep hold of Hatate – and it looks like they are very close to a deal.
Celtic close in on Reo Hatate agreement
The Mail now suggest that Celtic are close to tying Hatate down to a new contract and killing off any lingering exit rumours.
The Scottish Sun reported in August that Hatate had rejected the offer of a new contract to stay at Parkhead.
Hatate, hailed as a ‘fantastic player’ by James McFadden, was still open to staying though and The Daily Record suggested that a deal was still in the pipeline.
It looks like Celtic are now on the verge of striking an agreement with Hatate staying for years to come having made a huge impact since his move from Kawasaki Frontale.
Tottenham Hotspur have been eyeing Hatate
If Hatate does sign that new deal then it means the rumours linking him with Tottenham Hotspur can finally end.
The Daily Mail reported in June that Tottenham had been monitoring Hatate ahead of a potential move to sign him.
This rumour was always going to emerge as soon as Postecoglou became Tottenham boss over the summer.
Postecoglou absolutely loves Hatate and the emotion of a Tottenham reunion certainly made some sense.
It now looks like Hatate will be staying in Glasgow instead, ruling out joining forces with Postecoglou again once and for all.
