Tottenham Hotspur could move for Al Ittihad winger Jota after seeing Ivan Perisic suffer a potentially season-ending injury.
Jota is thought to have Premier League suitors after his big move to Saudi Arabia turned into a complete nightmare.
That is according to The Mirror, who claim that Jota’s situation with Al Ittihad has ‘put Premier League clubs on alert’.
Al Ittihad splashed out £25million to sign Jota from Celtic back in July, landing him alongside the likes of Karim Benzema, N’Golo Kante and Fabinho.
Jota is remarkably already out of the plans though with reporter Rudy Galetti suggesting that Jota will be left out of the Al Ittihad squad until Saudi Arabia.
Galetti claimed that Jota may rip up his Al Ittihad contract as he looks to get out of Saudi Arabia, with a move to England potentially on the cards in 2024.
Tottenham Hotspur interested in signing Jota
It’s no surprise to see Tottenham being touted as suitors.
Jota thrived under Ange Postecoglou at Celtic and 90Min reported in late August that Tottenham were informed of a chance to sign the Portuguese winger.
Spurs snapped up Brennan Johnson but the situation has changed a little.
Ivan Perisic has picked up a major injury and could miss the rest of the season, at which point he is expected to leave on a free transfer.
Adding another winger is now a focus for Tottenham and The Mirror suggest that Jota is wanted by Postecoglou.
It’s noted that Jota will not be registered for league games and will be limited to AFC Champions League outings; hardly ideal for a 24-year-old.
Jota has allegedly had a request to terminate his contract rejected but Tottenham will be watching this situation very closely.
Jota and Ange Postecoglou big fans of each other
A reunion with Postecoglou will certainly appeal to Jota, who needs to play under a manager who really believes in him.
Nuno Espirito Santo and Al Ittihad clearly aren’t fussed but if anybody can help Jota get back on track, it’s Postecoglou.
The Australian called Jota a ‘special player’ during their stint together at Celtic, first on loan before striking a permanent deal.
Jota smashed 28 goals and 26 assists in 83 games under Postecoglou and called his tactical approach ‘tremendous’ in quotes published by Celts Are Here.
There is clearly a mutual appreciation there and if Jota is available come January – as looks likely – then a move to Spurs could make perfect sense.
