As the conflict between Israel and Hamas continues, some are under the assumption that the latter has “declared war on America” too. That, however, is not true, and the New York Police Department (NYPD) has confirmed that there are “no credible threats to NYC” on Friday, October 13th, 2023.
Hamas, the group behind the Islamic Resistance Movement, attacked Israel over the weekend, killing hundreds of people and taking many hostage. People across the globe started to fear possible attacks on their own countries when former Hamas leader, Khaled Mashal, allegedly called for protests in support of Palestinians.
Hamas has not declared war on America
While government officials have addressed the speculations about possible threats to America by Hamas, there’s no evidence to prove that the militant group has declared war on the Western country.
According to multiple news networks, the former Hamas Chief reportedly called for neighboring countries’ support in the group’s war against Israel to “free Palestine”.
NBC News reports, that Khaled “called for Friday to be a global day of ‘anger’ in support of the recent Hamas attack on Israel” and allegedly said that the demonstrations would send a “message of rage to Zionists and to America.”
Such calls for action have previously resulted in demonstrations and unrest in Gaza, but it hasn’t caused “attacks in the U.S. in the past.”
NYPD says ‘no credible threat’ to NYC on Friday, October 13th
The NYPD addressed the tension built among Americans since Hamas attacked Israel and assured them there was no “credible threat” to New York City on Friday the 13th, but they are being prepared nevertheless.
NYPD Assistant Chief of Intelligence and Counterterrorism, John Hart said: “There are a lot of concerns and we appreciate those concerns.
“And what happened in Israel was horrific and of concern to many New Yorkers so our message is that we do not have any specific or credible threats in NYC.”
The Governor of New York City, Kathy Hochul, seconded the NYPD in her own statement.
She said: “There is currently no intelligence showing any active threats in New York – that is the entire state of New York.”
Cops ordered to be in uniforms
Despite no active threat to the city, NYPD has reportedly canceled all training for police officers on Thursday and ordered the entire force to be in uniform and on patrol.
The department is looking into “additional security” for large gatherings, cultural sites, places of worship, and even rallies on Friday.
