» » » ‘It would fit’: Reporter shares what he is ‘being told’ about Tottenham’s January transfer plans

Tottenham Hotspur are looking for a player like Galatasaray ace Kerem Akturkoglu during the January transfer window.

Galatasaray star Kerem Akturkoglu is the profile of player Tottenham Hotspur would like to sign in 2024.

That is according to transfer insider Dean Jones, who has been speaking to Give Me Sport.

Tottenham are enjoying a dream start under Ange Postecoglou and sit top of the Premier League table.

Spurs still need some new faces in 2024 and another versatile attacking player could be on the wish list.

Tottenham looking for a player like Kerem Akturkoglu

Transfer insider Dean Jones has now told Give Me Sport that whilst he hasn’t heard of Galatasaray ace Kerem Akturkoglu being a definite Spurs target, he is the kind of player wanted.

Jones claims that Tottenham are looking for somebody who can play in multiple positions across the front line rather than a fixed number nine.

Akturkoglu would fit that bill as a wide man who can play on either flank or as a number 10, so Jones thinks he is a name to keep an eye on.

“Well, they’re trying to scout quite a few players at the moment, Tottenham, that are just capable of adding another attacking edge to their team,” said Jones. “So, there are plenty of reports out there suggesting that they are scouting him [Kerem Akturkoglu]. It is not one that I have heard personally but it would fit with exactly what I’m being told that they are looking for.”

“They’re not looking for an out-and-out striker right now, they’re looking for another player that can go in and around that frontline. So yeah, it’s certainly somebody to probably look out for, especially while Galatasaray are in the Champions League,” he added.

Turkish newspaper Aksam suggested last week that Tottenham have already made contact to try and sign Akturkoglu.

Reports then indicated that Tottenham would be watching Akturkoglu in action for Galatasaray against Bayern Munich in midweek.

The Turkish media seem convinced that Spurs want Akturkoglu, but there has been little word from the England press just yet.

My view: Tottenham would be wise to look at strikers too

Tottenham are expected to move on from Ivan Perisic in 2024, so maybe that is contributing to this winger pursuit.

Spurs only recently brought in another versatile forward though, paying big money to sign Brennan Johnson from Nottingham Forest.

Akturkoglu is a different type of player but maybe going for another centre forward should be in mind too.

Feyenoord’s Santiago Gimenez has been linked and maybe that’s the kind of player Tottenham could add.

Postecoglou played with physical strikers at Celtic with Giorgos Giakoumakis and Oh Hyeon-gyu both featuring under him.

Gimenez isn’t a target man but has some physicality and has proven himself to be lethal inside the penalty area.

We think the Mexican is more of a name to watch than Akturkoglu, even if the Galatasaray star is shining this season.
