Matthew Perry rose to fame at the young age of 25, when he starred as the iconic Chandler Bing in the first series of Friends. Little did the cast know, their lives would never be the same again as it became one of the most loved, and watched, shows around the globe.

Although Chandler and Ross were the same age, and older than both Monica and Rachel in the show, Perry was actually the youngest of the whole cast. We take a look back at Matthew Perry’s early days, from his first appearance in Friends to his last photos.

1994: Photos of young Matthew Perry’s first on-screen appearance as Chandler Bing

Matthew Perry‘s first appearance as Chandler Bing came in the 1994 pilot episode, which aired on 22 September 1994, as the young star.

The star could be seen with some of the other cast mates, including Matt LeBanc, before meeting Monica’s ‘new roommate’ Rachel, played by Jennifer Aniston.

In his first ever scene, the star can be seen sitting on the edge of the Central Perk coach, where they end up sitting for 10 years, unbeknownst to them in the pilot episode.

2000: The 26th People’s Choice Awards

Six years after the launch of the show, the cast of Friends were seen attending the 26th People’s Choice Awards, where they picked up the award for Favorite TV Comedy.

2004: Matthew Perry’s last on-screen appearance as Chandler Bing

The Friends cast made their last ever onscreen appearance as their characters when the finale aired on May 6, 2004.

At the time of airing, Matthew was 35 years old.

2009: Matthew Perry stars in 17 Again

In 2009, five years after Friends aired its last episode, Perry launched himself into the movie world, starring alongside Zac Efron in the film, 17 Again.

Matthew played the role of the older version of Efron’s character Mike O’Donnell.

2015: Matthew Perry and Matt LeBlanc reunite

Could they BE any more cute? In 2015, roomies Matthew Perry and Matt LeBlanc reunited at Stars Party at the Pacific Design Center in West Hollywood.

In 2021, HBO hosted a hotly anticipated reunion where the Fab Six visited the set 25 years after they first originally stepped foot on the scene, and reminisced and discussed the show that changed everyone’s lives.

June 2023: The Friends star makes his last public appearance

Perry is known for his love of tennis, and his last public appearance before his tragic death was at the French Open, in Paris, on June 9.

Before the star pursued his highly successful career in acting, he was a competitive player in the sport.

October 2023: Matthew Perry posts for the final time days before death

Just days before his tragic death, Perry posted an Instagram photo of himself in his jacuzzi, which he captioned:

“Oh, so warm water swirling around makes you feel good? I’m Mattman.”

He was 54 years old.

RIP Matthew Perry.
