Tottenham Hotspur have been watching Santiago Gimenez ever since eyeing up a move for his Feyenoord boss Arne Slot.

Santiago Gimenez could be the man for Tottenham Hotspur in January after months of tracking the Feyenoord striker.

Son Heung-min is currently firing on all cylinders in the Tottenham attack, so signing another striker may not be a top priority.

Tottenham continue to be linked with strikers, including Stuttgart goal machine Serhou Guirassy.

Spurs appear to have other names in the mix, including Feyenoord hitman Santiago Gimenez.

Tottenham Hotspur have liked Santiago Gimenez for months

Tottenham wanted Gimenez over the summer, and he is almost impossible to ignore this season.

The Mexico international has smashed 15 goals in just 11 games this season, making himself a wanted man around Europe.

Fabrizio Romano now claims on YouTube that Tottenham are interested in Gimenez, who could cost around £39million.

Romano adds that Tottenham spotted Gimenez whilst watching Feyenoord with a view to appointing their manager Arne Slot.

That deal ended up falling through and Tottenham pivoted to Ange Postecoglou, who now has Tottenham sitting top of the Premier League table.

Tottenham have maintained that interest in Gimenez and could push for a deal in 2024 – either in January or in the summer.

“We know very well that many top clubs around Europe are keeping an eye on the boy,” said Romano. “From what I’m hearing, something around €45million (£39million) could be the right fee to make it happen. Let’s see if in the January window or in the summer window it depends on Feyenoord, more than on the player.”

“The interest of many clubs is there. I think we saw Tottenham linked, because from what I’m told, Tottenham scouts have been following the player already last year. You will remember that Tottenham were considering to appoint Arne Slot as manager early in the summer, before Ange Postecoglou, then that deal collapsed but they were following Feyenoord and, while they were following the manager, they saw that Santi Gimenez is absolutely a very good striker.”

“So Santi Gimenez for sure is a player interesting for Tottenham, but also for many other clubs around Europe, and this is why decisions will be made in the next months, but at the moment, no statement from people close to the player and the only person is the father,” he added.

My view: Tottenham may have stumbled into their ideal striker signing

Tottenham seemingly weren’t going to watch Feyenoord with the intention of watching Gimenez.

They wanted to watch the style of play under Slot, who guided Feyenoord to the Eredivisie title last season.

A deal for Slot just wasn’t meant to be, but those visits to the Netherlands weren’t for nothing as Tottenham appear to have stumbled into a potentially outstanding signing.

Gimenez is not only scoring goals for fun but is also showing the ability and potential of a complete striker.

Gimenez is strong and quick, confident when carrying the ball against defenders and has shown superb link-up play.

Spurs fans may have Vincent Janssen-inspired nightmares when it comes to signing another Eredivisie striker, but we think Gimenez can become a superstar – and Tottenham could yet snatch Slot’s star man.
