Clinton Morrison says ‘Paul Merson was frustrated’ with how Bukayo Saka was treated during Arsenal’s 4-0 win over Bournemouth.

Heading into the game, Arsenal’s star man on the right was an injury doubt, with Mikel Arteta sharing that he had hardly trained.

But Arsenal fans would have been delighted to see Bukayo Saka’s name on the teamsheet before the game and even happier when he opened the scoring.

Whilst the scoreline read 4-0, it was a tough and hard-hitting game for the 22-year-old, with Morrison adding that he constantly went down in the game after getting kicked, as he told Soccer Saturday on Sky Sports (30/09/23 at 4:35 pm).

In the end, Bukayo Saka was taken off in the 76th minute for Fabio Vieira, with some big games coming up, including Manchester City next Sunday.

Arsenal fans will be praying that he will see through the next week because some would argue that he could have been dealt with in a better manner.

Saka against Bournemouth

“That’s why Paul Merson is frustrated,” said Morrison. “Listen, he has been kicked all afternoon.

“He goes to block a shot from Kerkez and he catches it right on the top of his shin. That was five minutes ago. He continued.

“Then he went down once and gone down again. They are doing the best thing by taking him off and he is hobbling off. It’s not worth taking any risks, this game is over. Big game on Tuesday and big game next Sunday, so you need Saka fit.”

Saka’s importance

It just goes to show how important the all-action forward is to Arsenal that even missing one game hurts the club.

Arsenal’s issue is that they play Lens away from home on Tuesday night in the Champions League. Do you risk Saka if he isn’t 100%?

On paper, Arsenal should deal with the French side, added to the fact that they beat PSV on their opening night in Europe, so it is perhaps the wise call to wrap Saka in cotton wool with that Manchester City game looming.
