Season 2 of The Lincoln Lawyer may only have aired earlier this year but that hasn’t stopped co-showrunner Ted Humphrey from teasing plans for season 4 and beyond.
Following its enthralling second season, The Lincoln Lawyer was quickly renewed by Netflix for season 3 but in a recent podcast appearance, co-showrunner Ted Humphrey revealed that plans are in place for a fourth installment and future seasons should the series prove popular enough.
The Lincoln Lawyer co-showrunner teases season 4 and beyond
Appearing in the October 2 episode of The Lincoln Lawyer Podcast hosted by So Many Shows, co-showrunner Ted Humphrey discussed several key moments from the season 2 finale, how it sets up season 3 and that the writing team is planning for the show to be running for a while yet.
“We have plans through at least four seasons and plans for further than that,” Humphrey said. “We love making the show and want to keep making it as long as people want to watch.”
“We have source material to work from because there are at least two more books beyond The Gods of Guilt,” he added. “And Michael [Connelly] is working on another one right now.”
And finally, the writer concluded by saying: “There’s plenty more to do if people are enjoying the show.”

Season 3 is coming first
Before fans get too ahead of themselves thinking about a potential fourth season, which has yet to be confirmed by Netflix, there is the small matter of season 3 to address first.
As alluded to in Humphrey’s comments above, season 3 will tell the story of The Gods of Guilt, the fifth book in Michael Connelly’s Lincoln Lawyer series.
The season 2 finale teed up the events of this book in tantalizing style with the revelation that a contact of Mickey Haller’s, Gloria Dayton (aka Glory Days), had wound up dead.
Incredibly, Mickey is hired by the man accused of murdering her, Julian La Cosse (he’s called Andre in the novel) who claims he is innocent, and that Glory Days told him to contact the Lincoln Lawyer if ever he needed help.
The Lincoln Lawyer books in order
While The Lincoln Lawyer may be based on a series of books, the Netflix adaptation has not followed the publication order of the novels so far.
The series skipped the first book entirely, due to it being covered in the Matthew McConaughey film from 2011, while season 2 also jumped ahead a book by missing out The Reversal – although Ted Humphrey said that this story may be revisited in future seasons.
At the time of writing, six Lincoln Lawyer books have been published while a seventh is slated to hit bookstore shelves later in 2023.
- The Lincoln Lawyer (2005) – Covered in 2011’s Matthew McConaughey film
- The Brass Verdict (2008) – Season 1
- The Reversal (2010)
- The Fifth Witness (2011) – Season 2
- The Gods of Guilt (2013) – Season 3
- The Law of Innocence (2020)
- Resurrection Walk (Exp. 2023)
Seasons 1 and 2 of The Lincoln Lawyer are available to stream now on Netflix.
