Marvin Dusksch has indicated that he would be happy to stay at Werder Bremen despite reports linking him with Premier League duo Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest.

With the European Championships rapidly approaching, the January window is likely to be the cause of much internal strife amongst players like Marvin Ducksch.

Reportedly a mid-season target for both Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest – according to Sky Germany’s Christian Falk and BILD – would a move to the Premier League be a help or a hindrance to Ducksch’s hopes of securing a place in Julian Nagelsmann’s Germany squad?

Newcastle and Nottingham Forest interested

On one hand, greater exposure in Europe’s most high-profile domestic competition would do the late-blooming forward no harm. On the other, a sluggish start to life in Newcastle or Nottingham could see Ducksch overtaken by another of the attackers at Nagelsmann’s disposal.

Speaking to Sky as speculation over his future begins to increase, Ducksch is keen to point out that it is at Werder Bremen where he has forced his way into the Germany reckoning, fully aware of the benefits such a talismanic role at club level brings him.

“I was able to develop into a national player here (at Bremen). And I know what I have at the club,” Ducksch explains. “(Although) of course, in football, you never know what could happen.”

The two-time German international, once of Borussia Dortmund, has taken over the mantle at the Weser Stadium following the departure of the reigning Bundesliga Golden Boot winner Niklas Fullkrug. Ducksch, who can play anywhere across the frontline, has six goals and four assists in 2023/24 already, with his stunning free-kick against Wolfsburg one of the highlights of the entire Bundesliga campaign.

Werder’s sporting director Clemens Fritz, meanwhile, has wasted no time in informing Ducksch’s suitors that the in-form forward is not for sale

“A winter transfer is not an option for us,” Fritz explained to Bild last week.
