Arsenal have strongly criticised match officials for allowing Newcastle United’s goal against them at St. James’ Park to stand, but Jamie O’Hara has pointed the finger at one of the Gunners’ players.
Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal suffered a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United away from home at St. James’ Park in the Premier League this past weekend.
Anthony Gordon scored the only goal of the match in the 64th minute.
The goal was hugely controversial.
VAR had to check whether the ball had gone out of play, for a foul, and for offside.
Arsenal even released a statement after the match strongly criticising the match officials.
Jamie O’Hara criticises Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya vs Newcastle United
Former Tottenham Hotspur player and Sky Sports pundit Jamie O’Hara has noted the fault of David Raya in the goal.
The talkSPORT pundit believes that Raya should have done better for the goal that Newcastle scored.
Arsenal signed Raya from Brentford in the summer transfer window.
The 28-year-old Spain international goalkeeper started the season as the second choice behind Aaron Ramsdale.
However, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has now made Raya his number one goalkeeper.
My View: Aaron Ramsdale could get back into Arsenal starting lineup
In my opinion, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta could be forced to go back to Aaron Ramsdale.
David Raya is a good goalkeeper, but the Spain international has not always been at his best for Arsenal.
There have been occasions when the Spaniard has looked shaky at the back.
Raya cost Arsenal a goal against Chelsea in the London derby and almost gifted the Blues another just minutes later.
I believe that if Raya’s performances do not improve, then Arsenal manager Arteta could have to eventually bring Ramsdale back into the fold.
