» » » 'All who doubted him': Micah Richards hails transformation of £158k-a-week Arsenal man

Mikel Arteta is getting booked galore, but they are actions the Arsenal manager wouldn’t change for the world.

There is no doubt that Mikel Arteta is one of the more animated managers on the touchline.

Some call it passion and wanting to do everything he can for his team to win, but others think he is crossing the line.

Micah Richards feels that the Spaniard is ‘always teetering on that line’, but he is fully aware that he has to be at his ‘absolute best’ for Arsenal to win the Premier League title, as he told The Rest Is Football Podcast.

The former Premier League right-back was also keen to note how people doubted Mikel Arteta, but he has now proven his worth by how well Arsenal are playing.

It wasn’t so long ago that supporters were calling for the head of their manager, as well as the powers that be.

But all of that has now changed on its head, as the team are as close as they have been in decades to win the Premier League title.

Mikel Arteta on the touchline

“You know what, he gets carried away, but I just love it,” said Richards. “I think there is a fine line. I think he is always teetering on that line a little bit.

“But he knows he has to be at his absolute best to win this Premier League. All them who doubted him. When he came in and he won the FA Cup, then Arteta out after that.

“But he has slowly built a really good, organised and solid team, who can score goals as well – I understand it from the manager’s point of view, when he knows what he is up against.

“Liverpool look like they were somewhat back to their best apart from this weekend. You know Man City are going to be there. Spurs are going to be there. I understand why he gets a little bit animated on the side.”

Mikel Arteta and the Premier League title

If you think Arteta is animated now, well wait until the final few months of the season.

During the previous campaign, and even before that when they were battling for fourth spot, Arsenal have crumbled and bottled the leads they have held.

That same pressure is going to be put on their shoulders when the crunch moments arrive this season, so expect more bookings for Arsenal’s £158k-a-week man

And one of the prime examples will be against Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday. Arsenal have been there before and struggled before, so expect the heat to be on them like never before.
