A round-up of the latest transfer gossip from around Europe as Manchester United show interest in a new goalkeeper and Liverpool rival Newcastle over a midfielder.
The Red Devils only strengthened their shot-stopper ranks last summer as Andre Onana quit Inter Milan. Yet Erik ten Hag appears keen to get another body beside Tom Heaton and Altay Bayindir. Onana has started in each of Manchester United’s 21 Premier League games so far.
New midfielders are also on the horizon for Liverpool and Newcastle United as Jurgen Klopp and Eddie Howe eye reinforcements. The Reds already moved to replace Jordan Henderson and Fabinho last summer. But Klopp remains keen to build on Wataru Endo’s August arrival.

Lazio goalkeeper Ivan Provedel is attracting interest from Manchester United in his potential transfer, per Quotidiano Sportivo. The Red Devils have joined a clutch of clubs in tracking the 29-year-old, with the uncapped Italy stopper pushing to receive an improved salary in Rome.
Quotidiano Sportivo also notes Brighton & Hove Albion, Fulham and Newcastle are showing interest in Alessio Romagnoli’s transfer from Lazio. The 29-year-old moved to Rome from AC Milan at the end of his contract in July 2022. But the defender took a pay cut to seal a move.
Clubs interested in signing Emile Smith Rowe on loan have suffered a blow after Arsenal told Aston Villa, Newcastle and West Ham United that the 23-year-old wants to fight for a spot in Mikel Arteta’s XI. The Daily Mail reports he is intent on proving himself at Emirates Stadium.
Bayer Leverkusen and Florian Wirtz have agreed that he will stay at the Bundesliga club until at least 2025. But Bild claims that Bayern Munich, Manchester City and Real Madrid are still showing an interest in Wirtz’s transfer. It would cost over €130m (£112m) to land his switch.
Marseille are now exploring a transfer from Arsenal for Nuno Tavares as the left-back is open to ending his loan spell with Nottingham Forest early. L’Equipe adds OM believe the 23-year-old Portuguese is also an easy signing to secure in January after taking him on loan in 22/23.
Newcastle are not the only Premier League club interested in signing Ederson with Liverpool now considering the Atalanta star’s transfer. Gazzetta dello Sport reports that a clutch of top English teams are eying the Brazilian. But La Dea are loath to tear up their squad in January.
Hearts have made Lawrence Shankland an offer for a new contract that would make him the club’s highest-paid player for the past 10 years, reports the Daily Record. The 28-year-old is a transfer target for Rangers and English Championship clubs but Hearts want to keep him.
Manchester United intend to open talks with Djurgardens IF on a transfer for Lucas Bergvall, per 90min. The Red Devils are eager to beat interest from Borussia Dortmund and Eintracht Frankfurt in the 17-year-old, who trained with the Old Trafford youth ranks a few years ago.
RB Leipzig forward Benjamin Sesko is well-placed to become AC Milan’s No1 striker target in the summer, reports Gazzetta dello Sport. His physique and shooting prowess have charmed San Siro chiefs. The 20-year-old is also playing less than he expected when moving last July.
IF Elfsborg director of football Stefan Andreasson has handed Celtic a boost in their interest of Hakon Valdimarsson by admitting a transfer for the goalkeeper in January is possible, via the Daily Record. The Bhoys have marked the Aston Villa target as competition for Joe Hart.
