Roy Keane loved hearing that Ange Postecoglou believes that Tottenham Hotspur are involved in a Premier League title race this season.

Tottenham headed to Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon, looking to complete the double over Manchester United.

Spurs beat United 2-0 in August but went down early on Sunday with Rasmus Hojlund smashing the ball beyond Guglielmo Vicario.

Richarlison nodded Tottenham level before Marcus Rashford left Vicario with no chance, putting United back in front with a smart low finish.

Tottenham hit back again after the break with Rodrigo Bentancur smashing the ball past Andre Onana to pull Spurs level at 2-2.

Neither side were able to find that crucial winning goal though, meaning this one ended with a share of the spoils.

Tottenham may feel a little disappointed with a point, especially as this United side have struggled at home this season.

Factor in Tottenham’s injuries and a draw isn’t too bad though, even if it dents some lingering Premier League title hopes.

Spurs sit five points behind league leaders Liverpool right now, but the Reds have a game in hand – and Manchester City now have Kevin De Bruyne back fit and firing.

It’s unlikely that Tottenham will end up winning the title but boss Ange Postecoglou told BBC Sport just a few days ago that he won’t rule out going for top spot until it’s mathematically impossible.

Postecoglou would rather keep the dream alive, even if it looks unlikely, than stop his players from dreaming about lifting big silverware.

That’s an admirable approach and it’s one which impressed Roy Keane, speaking ahead of Sunday’s game.

Keane told Sky Sports that he loves Postecoglou’s positive approach, calling his comments ‘brilliant’.

The Irishman noted that he doesn’t think Spurs are good enough to win the title but admires how Postecoglou is building belief and confidence in his Tottenham squad.

“I still find it difficult to go away from Man City, but I actually love that the manager is coming out and being positive saying ‘listen, we feel we’re in a title race’, I think that’s brilliant,” said Keane. “I think the players will enjoy that as well. I don’t think they’re good enough, don’t get me wrong, but if the manager believes it and he’s trying to put that trust and that belief into the players, then good on him,” he added.

Keane still makes Manchester City the favourites for the title despite some shaky results this season.

De Bruyne’s astonishing impact against Newcastle United on Saturday has sent shockwaves through the Premier League and it may now be difficult to stop City’s usual rampage in the second half of the season.

Tottenham will keep hanging in there though and the progress they have made in just a few months of the Postecoglou era is nothing short of staggering.
