» » » ‘I can’t believe that’s allowed’: Alan Brazil blasts treatment of £17m Tottenham star

Alan Brazil and Ally McCoist have discussed the recent issues facing Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper, Guglielmo Vicario.

The 27-year-old joined Tottenham in the summer to replace the long-serving Hugo Lloris as the club’s number one.

From the get-go, he made an impact at Tottenham, as Ange Postecoglou made a flying start to life in the Premier League.

But in recent weeks, Guglielmo Vicario has conceded questionable goals from corners, including two late goals against Manchester City in the FA Cup and Everton in the Premier League.

Alan Brazil made it clear that he ‘doesn’t like it’ and he believes the Italian is being ‘impeded’ during corners and he ‘can’t believe that’s allowed’, as he told talkSPORT.

Set-piece situations are usually bread and butter for a Sean Dyche side, so for them to score two valuable goals from it shouldn’t be a surprise.

But it’s quite clear that Guglielmo Vicario is now being targeted because the opposition senses a weakness when they surround him, so they don’t give him the space to collect the ball.

Guglielmo Vicario from corners

“Spurs, Spurs,” said a frustrated Brazil. “Tell me the final goal. Surely the keeper has got to come for that. He is nodding it a yard off the line.

“In the dying seconds, the keeper has got to make a decision and bosh get his fist to it.”

McCoist responded: “I am going to tell you something. That keeper has been excellent, Vicario. He has been excellent since he has come into Spurs to replace Lloris.

“However, he was culpable for the goal against Manchester City in the cup. I think it was a crossball from a corner. Sean Dyche and Everton played on that, particularly in the first half.”

Brazil then claimed: “I don’t like it. I think that’s impeding the goalkeeper. I think that’s a free kick. Absolutely 100%, I do (think it’s obstruction). I can’t believe that’s allowed. They are wrestling. Pushing each other. Shoving each other. They are intentionally stopping the keeper from coming.”

Guglielmo Vicario has been brilliant for Tottenham

Look, this is a minor blip and it shouldn’t be something that should alarm fans, at this moment in time.

Everything else Vicario is doing is top notch and the £17.2 million signing, in less than a year of being at Hotspur Way, is proving to be a bargain transfer.

It was obvious to everyone that Spurs needed to move on from Lloris last season because he became too error-prone in between the sticks.

Over the years, from Cristian Romero to Dejan Kulusevski, the Italian market has proved to be fruitful for the club and Vicario is another example of that.
