» » » ‘Everything is easy for him’: Gabriel Agbonlahor says £40m Chelsea player has a ‘footballing brain’

Chelsea may have won against Newcastle United at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League on Monday evening, but I do not think that it can mask how poor a season Mauricio Pochettino’s side are having,

Much was expected of Chelsea at the start of the season, but the Blues are not going to end up in the top four of the Premier League table.

Head coach Mauricio Pochettino has failed to get the best out of his players, and I have to say that Chelsea fans will be disappointed with how things have panned out.

Cole Palmer is a star for Chelsea

One Chelsea player who has done well this season is Cole Palmer. The England international, who can play as an attacking midfielder or as a winger, has been a shining light for the former Premier League and UEFA Champions League winners.

Palmer cost Chelsea £40 million in transfer fees (BBC Sport) when he joined them from Manchester City in the summer of 2023.

The 21-year-old has scored 11 goals and given eight assists in 19 starts and four substitute appearances in the Premier League for the Blues this season.

Palmer also scored two goals and provided two assists in six Carabao Cup games.

The youngster was in action for Chelsea against Newcastle United at Stamford Bridge I London in the Premier League on Monday evening.

Palmer provided the assist for Nicolas Jackson’s goal in the sixth minute and scored in the 57th minute when he took a touch to get the ball out of his feet before drilling hard and low past goalkeeper Martin Dubravka. Chelsea won 3-2.

Gabriel Agbonlahor gives his verdict

Former Aston Villa striker and talkSPORT pundit Gabriel Agbonlahor was impressed with Palmer.

Agbonlahor said about Palmer on talkSPORT (4:09 pm, March 12, 2024): “People might look at that and think like that’s a normal goal. Not every player has got that, that footballing brain, through the legs, the keeper has got no chance.

“Most players would go in the opposite corner, trying for the top corner or the bottom corner, opposite side. Reverses it through the defender’s legs, great goal.

“Just playing like he is enjoying himself, everything is easy for him, he has always got that time, the way he was standing up to Dan Burn, Dan Burn had a difficult night against him.”

Palmer is only 21 now and has been one of the few Chelsea signings in recent transfer windows who have been a big success.

I think that the England international is going to develop and improve even more. He is a very classy player who can add more facets to his game in the coming years.
