With Jurgen Klopp set to leave Liverpool in the summer, it has thrown up a lot of uncertainty around the club.

Last summer, senior players headed for the Anfield exit door and fans breathed a sigh of relief when Mohamed Salah stayed amid interest from the Saudi Pro League.

But with life set to begin without Liverpool’s legendary manager in a few months, the worry will be that key players could head for the exit door alongside him.

Recently, rumours surfaced around Real Madrid looking at Trent Alexander-Arnold’s contract situation – his current deal expires in 2025.

Steve Nicol admitted that he can see the forward-thinking fullback leaving and offers as low as ‘£60 million’ being put on the table for his services, as he told ESPN.

But he was adamant that the 25-year-old simply can’t defend and thriving youngster Conor Bradley is ‘miles better’ in that department.

For years and years, Trent Alexander-Arnold has ridden solo in that department, with utility players, such as Jordan Henderson, Joe Gomez and James Milner filling in now and again.

Now that there is depth in that area, these Real Madrid rumours emerge and Steve Nicol shared his thoughts.

Trent Alexander-Arnold at Real Madrid

“I think the fact that Klopp’s leaving, it’s going to be interesting because as we have all said, Trent Alexander-Arnold, as a fullback, is a poor defender,” said Nicol. “There is no getting away from that. I don’t care who you support. What team you watch. Trent Alexander-Arnold isn’t a good defender.

“But he is so good going forward that it wouldn’t be a surprise if Real Madrid were to offer, I don’t know, £60, 70 or 80 million for Trent Alexander-Arnold when you have a young kid in Conor Bradley, who is a miles better defender, great going forward, but it’s in the same class as Trent.”

Trent Alexander-Arnold’s contract

Some positive news for Liverpool fans.

Sources have told HITC Football that Liverpool are confident of tying down Alexander-Arnold to a new contract.

Yes, these Real Madrid rumours have appeared, but we are told the player is happy at the club and isn’t showing any signs that he wants to leave.

At the end of the day, Alexander-Arnold is playing for his boyhood club and he has lived the dream of winning everything possible on the domestic stage, so why not do it again?!
