The mood at Manchester United can change pretty quickly, as was proven after their enthralling FA Cup win over Liverpool.
But it still shouldn’t hide the fact that, with or without Erik ten Hag, changes will need to be made to the squad via the transfer market in the summer.
You could argue that, back to front, Manchester United need to make changes to their XI, including adding some much-needed defenders.
Sources have told HITC Football that Manchester United are keen on Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite, with the Toffees possibly having to sell their prized asset.
After earning his maiden England call-up, Stephen Warnock thinks it just hints towards the 21-year-old leaving in the summer, as he told The Football Show on Sky Sports.
The former left-back compared the rising defender to Manchester City’s John Stones and how they have ‘similar traits’.
There is every chance the duo play alongside each other ahead of England’s upcoming internationals against Brazil and Belgium.
Either way, this is Jarrad Branthwaite further boosting his profile ahead of the summer transfer window.

“I hope he gets an opportunity (with England),” said Warnock. “I am a huge fan of his. I think he is brilliant, comfortable on the ball, he has got good pace and he learns very quickly from mistakes.
“Again, I think he will move on from Everton. It’s a natural progression for him to go beyond that. This England bit could be the kick-start of that. He’s superb.
“If you are playing alongside John Stones, how much are you going to learn from John Stones? And John Stones is a brilliant talker – the big thing with Branthwaite and Stones is I see similar traits in both of them. The way they play and the ability – he is quick when he gets going.”
Transfer fees
The issue facing Manchester United is that they have made and are still making big changes to the boardroom.
Everyone can see it and hear about it. On any normal day, when they dip into the transfer market, they have to pay inflated prices because of who they are.
Well, this might just increase further and they might find they have to pay over the odds again for players like Branthwaite.
That’s why it will be interesting, if the club pushes for his signature, if they pull away if Everton, understandably so, asks for an over-the-odds price.
