Liverpool have a host of issues to resolve within their squad this summer and HITC understands Luis Diaz has added himself to that list.
HITC revealed last month that following reports in Spain of interest from Real Madrid in signing Diaz – Liverpool made it clear they were not looking to let the Colombian leave.
The Reds were concerned by the links, which they believed were instigated by third parties looking to agitate on Diaz’s behalf and the club insisted they were not worried by quotes from his father suggesting that he could be tempted by a move to La Liga.
Now, fresh reports have suggested that Paris Saint-Germain could also be looking to make a move this summer – although this has been down-played by French sources to HITC.
Diaz joined Liverpool in January 2022 from Porto and has been a huge success since arriving at Anfield with 16 goals contributions in 36 Premier League starts so far.
Luis Diaz wants new contract
Now, HITC understands that Luis Diaz, via his representatives, has told Liverpool that he wants a new contract and that he would like new terms finalised by this summer.
Diaz believes that his form warrants an extension. HITC is told that Liverpool have been shocked by Diaz’s stance given he has three-years left on his contract.
Sources believe that Liverpool are willing have dialogue with Diaz, but they are not ‘overly impressed’ with the manner in which the situation has evolved in recent weeks and how suddenly he is being linked with the likes of Real Madrid and PSG.
Whilst, not ruling out a new deal – Liverpool have made it clear to Diaz’s representatives that they will assess the situation this summer but it is not seen as a priority at this point in time.
The Diaz situation has landed on the desk of the club’s new football supremo Michael Edwards, who along with incoming sporting director Richard Hughes, is already busy dealing with a host of situations at Anfield.
The club already had a number of player contract issues to sort out, before the Diaz situation emerged – with the likes of Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold needing to resolve their long-term futures with their current deals due to expire in 2025.
HITC has already revealed that Alexander-Arnold’s new deal is in the works and the club are confident of securing terms with the England international.
Mo Salah situation needs resolving
Liverpool also have the future of Mo Salah to look at with Saudi’s Pro League ready to make their move for the Egyptian superstar – as revealed by HITC.
With Salah’s future, in particular, in doubt – Liverpool are also looking at potentially bringing in another forward, which again highlights that Diaz may have to wait for his new deal to be finalised.
There is also the issue of who will be in charge of Liverpool next season – with Ruben Amorim emerging as their first choice. Indeed HITC confirmed that Liverpool have held positive talks with Amorim’s representatives – coincidentally the same agents of Diaz.
