Tottenham Hotspur will be eyeing up some important summer signings regardless of whether Ange Postecoglou can guide his side into the Champions League places.

Tottenham had to hit back after heading into the international break off the back of a 3-0 hammering at Fulham.

The 2-1 win over Luton Town saw Tottenham come from a goal down to secure a late win, again showing their winning mentality.

Drawing 1-1 at West Ham United in midweek wasn’t ideal but also not a disaster either.

Tottenham had plenty of possession but just couldn’t carve out the big chance to level the game.

Four points from two games since that defeat to Fulham is a decent response and Tottenham sit two points behind Aston Villa with a game in hand.

Tottenham will be pushing for fourth place with Ange Postecoglou no doubt knowing that a ticket to Europe’s top competition would help in the transfer market.

Tottenham hijack

Incredibly, Spurs do actually have their first summer signing already wrapped up.

Just hours after the January transfer window had closed, Tottenham confirmed the signing of Djurgarden midfielder Lucas Bergvall.

The Swedish midfielder seemed destined for Barcelona before Tottenham hijacked the deal, teeing up a summer move for the teenager.

Bergvall has a huge reputation and has already racked up 35 first-team appearances for Djurgarden, bagging seven goals and five assists.

The choice of Barcelona or Tottenham was an ‘incredibly difficult’ one for Bergvall but he had a gut feeling that Spurs was the move for him.

Tottenham fans have a few more months to wait until they can see Bergvall in a Spurs shirt, but the excitement is already building.

Lucas Bergvall destined for Tottenham

Djurgarden ‘sports coordinator’ Peter Kisfaludy has now been quoted by Fotboll Transfers as saying that he ‘knew all along’ that Bergvall would pick Tottenham.

The reason for that is the presence of fellow Swede Dejan Kulusevski at Tottenham.

Kisfaludy highlighted that he and Bergvall actually went to visit Kulusevski when he was playing for Juventus, spending an evening speaking to the now-Spurs winger.

Kisfaludy feels that Bergvall’s existing relationship with Kulusevski meant a move to Tottenham was always on the cards, but the influence of Ange Postecoglou was vital as well.

“I knew all along that it would be Tottenham,” said Kisfaludy. “Because I talked to Dejan Kulusevski. I messaged him and said Lucas is coming down, so take good care of him. Dejan is fantastic and has a huge amount of experience despite being only 24 years old.”

“It was when Dejan played for Juventus three years ago. When we were down there, we were at Dejan’s house for dinner and it was the first time we met. That Lucas got to sit with Dejan for a whole evening, I think that was important.”

“He got a better feeling and that is not so strange. When the coach Ange Postecoglou sits down with him and says that he loves young players and that he will get the chance here if he works hard. Compare that to Barcelona, where you didn’t even know who would coach the team,” he added.

Kulusevski has already hailed Bergvall having watched his displays for Djurgarden and there is a real chance for them to become a dynamic duo for both club and country in the coming years.
