Arsenal have been very clever in their transfer business of late.
Yes, in some cases, they have splashed the cash and broke club-record amounts, like they did with Declan Rice.
But, in other cases, not only have they been smart, but not being able to sign certain players has been a blessing in disguise for Arsenal.
It wasn’t so long ago that fans were crying out for Mykhailo Mudryk to join the club, but instead, he secured a transfer to Chelsea.
Given Mudryk’s struggles at Stamford Bridge, their London rivals are glad that they didn’t put down a hefty transfer fee for his talents.
Instead, Edu Gaspar worked his magic by signing Leandro Trossard for £27 million from Brighton during the January transfer window of 2023.
Fast forward to the present and he has become a key player for Arsenal, scoring 12 goals from 33 games – completing 90 minutes on only three occasions.
Shaun Wright-Phillips thinks Trossard is the ‘complete player’ for the Gunners because of his ability to play three different roles, control matches and be direct, as he told Premier League Productions (14/05/24 at 2:20 pm).
The Belgium star was compared with Gabriel Martinelli, who has been benched in recent matches, and why he is starting ahead of him, with a comparison made with Manchester City’s Jack Grealish.

“I think what he brings to that team is control,” said Wright-Phillips. “When Arteta has come from Pep, he is used to having a lot of control of the ball.
“I think if Martinelli plays there, it’s a bit more direct, a bit like Doku. If Jack (Grealish) is fit, he normally plays, especially in the bigger games. He knows under pressure he can retain possession of the ball or he can do a trick.
“Trossard has got goals on top of what he does. Plus, he sees passes. He is basically, in hindsight, a complete player to play in all three of those positions. I was one of those people that said when Kai (Havertz) came. Why are you getting Kai when you have got Trossard? But now somehow, Arteta has got them both playing and playing very, very well.”

Even the most ardent of Manchester City fans wouldn’t argue that Arsenal have been the best team in the Premier League this season.
But, heading into the final day of the season, it’s Pep Guardiola’s side who are leading the charge in the Premier League title race.

Just better or match Arsenal’s result and they are champions for the fourth time in a row.
Liverpool fans will know the feeling very well. They went two seasons recording 90+ points, yet they were left empty-handed.
And Arsenal might have to go a second season in a row without winning the title when they should have, at least once, ended their two decade wait to become champions of England.
