Arsenal are proudly sitting top of the Premier League table after their 1-0 win at Manchester United on Sunday.
Mikel Arteta and his players have done their job, they have taken the title race to the final day and now they hope.
On paper, Arsenal should be easily dispatching out-of-sorts Manchester United, but there is a reason why they have only won once at Old Trafford since 2007.
In truth, that showed throughout the game because they weren’t at their free-flowing best and there were mistakes here and there.
But all great teams punish their opponents if they just slightly open that door.
Thanks to Casemiro, he kept Kai Havertz well on side after being too lazy to push back up the field and he got punished for it.
Leandro Trossard was the man who accepted the present and proceeded to score the only goal of the game.
Michael Owen praised Havertz for being alert and doing ‘particularly well’ before playing the ball across to his alert teammate, as he told Premier League Productions (12/05/24 at 5:25 pm).
But the former striker ‘loved’ what Trossard did and how he ran across the box, in front of Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Casemiro, to poke home his goal.
Kai Havertz and Leandro Trossard combine for Arsenal
“Havertz does particularly well,” said Owen. “He just takes a look. He sees Casemiro and he is going to be playing him on side, so you might as well stay in the space. He thinks ‘right, this is going to give me a real advantage here’.
“Amrabat flies forward, he is trying to keep that line and doesn’t know that Casemiro isn’t with him. I do look at Wan-Bissaka as well. For someone who is in the team purely for his defending, Trossard shouldn’t be able to nick in front of him here. It’s very basic defending.
“But give all credit to Trossard, he times his run. I love seeing that attacking run as a centre-forward. Just waiting and waiting and waiting, then pouncing and a diagonal run. It was a good finish. But very avoidable from Man United.”
Will Tottenham Hotspur do Arsenal a favour?
Destiny is still in Manchester City’s hands, unless they lose or drop points away at Tottenham on Tuesday night.
Given Arsenal’s better goal difference, all they need is for their neighbours to pick up a point and they are one win away from becoming champions of England.

Everyone is talking about it and how Tottenham can do the unthinkable.
Yes, they can still secure Champions League football for next season, but at what cost?
You can bet your bottom dollar that if Arsenal do win the title, with a little help from Spurs, then they will never stop reminding them about it.
