HITC understands that Manchester United are in the hunt for Tosin Adarabioyo ahead of the departure of veteran defender Raphael Varane.

The former France international confirmed on Tuesday that he will leave Manchester United at the end of the season thus further emphasising the club’s need to bring in that centre-back.

Raphael Varane’s contract expires at the end of June and he has endured another injury-hit campaign playing 21 Premier League matches for Erik ten Hag’s side.

The World Cup winner, who retired from international duty earlier this year, joined Manchester United in 2021 after a trophy-laden career at Real Madrid – and Jamie Carragher had some strong words to say about him this season.

Jason Wilcox connection

New technical director Jason Wilcox is looking to sign a player he knows very well after Tosin Adarabioyo was captain of Manchester City’s FA Youth Cup winning side in 2015, which Wilcox managed.

The 26-year-old has played 20 times for Marco Silva’s Fulham this term, including starting wins over Arsenal, Manchester United, West Ham United, Tottenham and Brighton.

But his contract expires this summer and he will soon become a free agent – Adarabioyo has also had two loan spells at West Brom and Blackburn Rovers during his career.

Newcastle United’s interest in Tosin Adarabioyo

Newcastle United have been pushing hard to finalise a deal for Adarabioyo, with the belief that regular first-team football could win the day for them.

Eddie Howe’s side have long-term injury issues at centre-back, with first-team starter Sven Botman suffering an unfortunate ACL injury back in March and then captain Jamaal Lascelles suffering the same fate weeks later.

Plus, Newcastle could also be maintaining their European status this season – they currently sit sixth, level on points with Chelsea, three ahead of Manchester United, who they visit for a midweek Premier League showdown on Wednesday night.

However, HITC is told that United remain in the hunt for the 26-year-old as they look to bring in two central defenders this summer.
