Mikel Arteta has got a lot of things right on the transfer front at Arsenal.
His decisions haven’t always been popular, even during the last summer transfer window, questions were being asked.
But from booting out Mesut Ozil, offering to keep Granit Xhaka at the club after that infamous moment against Crystal Palace, swapping Aaron Ramsdale for David Raya and buying Kai Havertz.
During the five years Arteta has been at Arsenal, he has had a lot to answer for and, it’s fair to say, over time, he has proven his critics right.
But some calls are just out of your hands and that was the case with Xhaka during the recent summer transfer window.
It’s amazing because, for large parts of his career, he struggled at the Emirates, then the moment he starts to play consistently well, he is out of the door and donning the colours of another club.
You feel that Arsenal reluctantly accepted a £21 million bid from Bayer Leverkusen for their midfielder, who has since gone on to win the Bundesliga title and done it unbeaten!
It’s an incredible feat by Xabi Alonso’s men. Arsenal will know everything about that because their last title was an unbeaten campaign under Arsene Wenger, and their greatest-ever achievement!
Leverkusen were crowned champions weeks and weeks ago, but these past few games have all been about remaining unbeaten.
They did that when they recorded a 2-1 win over Augsburg on Saturday, with Xhaka posting on Instagram that these are ‘moments we’ll never forget’.
Gabriel Jesus responded with a message in the comments section of his IG post by saying ‘what a player’.

Win those and they will win an incredible Treble. All unbeaten.
