Gabriel Martinelli starred for Brazil as they prepared for Copa America with a stunning 3-2 win over Mexico on Saturday.

Arsenal’s flying winger has been selected to participate in this summer’s tournament by manager Dorival Junior, alongside club teammate, Gabriel Magalhães.

The latter was on the bench for the late win over Mexico, with Gabriel Martinelli starting and scoring as Endrick netted a dramatic stoppage-time winner in Texas.

Fulham playmaker Andreas Pereira opened the scoring after five minutes, before Martinelli doubled his team’s lead after the break.

But Mexico hit back with two quick-fire goals, including one in the 92nd minute, but football’s next superstar, Endrick, who will join Real Madrid this summer, then went up the other end and scored the winner.

Arsenal fans would have been delighted for their player and his performance, with the Brazil supporters certainly ecstatic that they have prepared for Copa America in such a morale-boosting style.

Nonetheless, after the win, Martinelli took to Instagram to express his thoughts on the game and he wrote ‘Always an honour to wear the shirt’.

In the comments section of his IG post, he was lauded and applauded by his teammates, including by Gabriel Magalhães and Endick.

Magalhães told his teammate: ‘You are bravo, my brother.’ Whilst Endrick added ‘You play a lot’ and Yan Couto called him ‘Ace’.

Gabriel Martinelli’s Arsenal form

Let’s be honest, he went backwards and his performance dipped off from the previous campaign. He even found himself on the bench, with Leandro Trossard taking his place.

Last season, Martinelli scored 15 goals from the flanks. That was some going and he seriously set a high bar for himself.

Bukayo Saka was able to match it and go again because he scored 16 Premier League goals, but Martinelli only managed six.

Despite that, he still finds himself in Brazil’s squad for Copa America and this is his chance to find that spark again ahead of the new Premier League season in August.
