» » » ‘Different level’: Gary Neville says £45m player has completely changed since leaving Tottenham Hotspur

Gary Neville has been speaking about Kyle Walker, and the ITV pundit has noted how the England international defender has changed for the better since joining Manchester City from Tottenham Hotspur.

Walker was one of the best players at Tottenham and rose to prominence in the Premier League under then Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino.

The England international established himself as one of the best right-backs in the Premier League, and there was no surprise when City decided to spend £45 million to sign him from Tottenham in 2017.

Walker has gone from strength to strength since then and has impressed many pundits, including Garth Crooks.

The 34-year-old has been superb for the Citizens over the years and is still going strong. He was even tipped to join Liverpool last summer.

The right-back has won the Premier League title six times with City. Walker has also clinched the UEFA Champions League once and the FA Cup twice with the Citizens under manager Pep Guardiola.

Walker is part of the England squad for UEFA Euro 2024, and ahead of the Three Lions’ match against Serbia on Sunday, Neville has been speaking about him on ITV.

Gary Neville explains how Kyle Walker has changed since Tottenham Hotspur exit

The former Manchester United and England international right-back has outlined how Walker has become better since leaving Spurs for City back in 2017.

Neville said about Walker on ITV: “I think he would play in any team in the world, international and at club level.

“When I think of his development, I look at him at Tottenham. I think he lacked that concentration and focus.

“I don’t actually blame him for that. I think when you are not subjected to that level of intensity every day, you just don’t know.

“Once he goes to Pep Guardiola and Manchester City, his concentration and intensity is there every single day. The expectation is so high, and then you see a different level of player.

“I have never been worried about him when the ball is on his side, against an Mbappe or a Vinicius Junior. The problem was always when the ball was on the opposite side at the back post.

“You really do need to be switched on. He has improved that part of his game enormously. His leadership obviously is immense.”

Kyle Walker to start for England vs Serbia

England will kick off their UEFA Euro 2024 campaign against Serbia in Group C on Sunday.

Walker is set to start at right-back. There is media speculation that England head coach Gareth Southgate will deploy the former Tottenham star at right-back.

Kieran Trippier and Trent Alexander-Arnold are brilliant right-backs, but Walker has been a regular in the England starting lineup for years and has never let his national team down. He has played 83 times for England.
