Arsenal fans will be watching Euro 2024 and Copa America with real interest because they have a number of their players performing on the big stage.
On the Premier League stage, the team wasn’t able to deliver the title after they fell at the final hurdle to Manchester City.
Many of the current Arsenal players are yet to win a major trophy and there is every chance someone could break that duck at Euro 2024.
From ice-cool centre-back William Saliba to star boy Bukayo Saka. France and England are two of the favourites to win the competition outright.
Both kicked off their campaigns with hard-working 1-0 wins. The French beat Austria 1-0 on Monday and Gareth Southgate guided his team to three points against Serbia on Sunday.
Saka provided the assist for Jude Bellingham’s headed goal, but his overall performance has left some questioning him.
Stan Collymore thinks that the flying winger is ‘the elephant in the room’ after his display against the Serbs, as he told talkSPORT.
The former striker apologised and stated ‘he didn’t play very well’ and called for Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold to play on the right-hand side instead.
Alexander-Arnold, who has played right-back throughout his club career, is being used in the middle of the park by Southgate.
But even after playing out of position. Others feel he needs to play a different role again.
Bukayo Saka’s performance for England at Euro 2024
“The elephant in the room, Bukayo Saka,” said Collymore. “I am sorry, he didn’t play very well for England. He wasn’t the only one, but he didn’t play very well.
“So, for me, it would be Declan Rice as the one holding midfielder. Trent (Alexander-Arnold) on the right. Bellingham and Foden. And a proper left-sided winger that can go past people and put crosses into the box for Harry Kane.”
Bukayo Saka deserves more respect
England’s performance wasn’t exactly expansive or full of clear-cut chances. But when is that the case under Southgate?
He is a defensive manager and many of the attacking players he uses struggle under his system because he can’t coach forward players at the highest level.

But when it comes to Saka, he is one of his team’s better players and deserves more respect for his performances.
At the end of the day, he put the cross on a plate for Bellingham to score, did his job and helped his team to an opening win at Euro 2024.
