One Arsenal player believes he is one of the top three best players in his position after another brilliant campaign at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal have had another brilliant season in the Premier League but Mikel Arteta’s side failed to lift the famous title with Manchester City claiming their fourth title victory in a row.

Despite this, the North London club have had a successful season and were only pipped to the league title on the final day after City beat West Ham United 3-1 at the Etihad Stadium.

Arsenal’s success was down to a solid defence with the Gunners conceding the lowest amount of goals in the division with just 29.

Defender believes he is in the top three

French defender William Saliba has been a revelation for the North London side and has been instrumental to the club’s success over the past two seasons.

Saliba, who is currently away on international duty with France ahead of the European Championship in Germany, spoke to French outlet L’Equipe about how he rates himself compared to other defenders in the Premier League.

“I think I am in the top three [defenders in the league],” Saliba said. “We finished with the best defence. I watch a lot of matches. I am a very humble person but last season, just like this season, I am in the top three defenders.

“I need to continue to work to go even higher […] in terms of concentration, I am a lot better. Before, I could play a top match but in one phase of play, I slept a bit. That is no longer the case. I am always on alert.”

Saliba’s success

Things haven’t always worked out this way for the Frenchman with the young defender spending time in France before finally being given his chance at Arsenal.

After a couple of loan spells in Ligue 1, Arteta finally deemed the Frenchman good enough to partner Gabriel Magalhaes in a back four.

Since then, the pair have gone from strength to strength and they have very quickly become the best centre-back pairing in the country.
