Arsenal need a clear-out this summer more than most.

Mikel Arteta has been in the hot seat for five years and has delivered the FA Cup, including several Champions League finishes.

But it’s the Premier League title that the Arsenal fans crave the most, with the team losing out on the final day of the recently concluded campaign.

Now, the big decision-makers need to start to balance out the squad, in terms of moving out those who aren’t playing, so they can sign who they need and get over that finishing line ahead of Manchester City.

Even though several Arsenal players have either played very little this term or been out on loan, they still have value and are receiving transfer interest ahead of the summer window re-opening.

One of them includes Kieran Tierney, who spent the season in Spain at Real Sociedad, after falling out of favour under Arteta.

Arsenal signed the Scotland international, who will participate at Euro 2024 this summer, for a fee of £25 million from Celtic in 2019 when Unai Emery was still in charge.

But could he make a return to Celtic? Chris Sutton was pretty honest about the whole situation, as he wrote in The Daily Record.

The former striker thinks that Tierney will be ‘back at the club one day’, but he warned the Scottish Premiership champions ‘it’s not going to happen any time soon’.

From the transfer fee Arsenal might want for their left-back and the Premier League wages he is on, Sutton thinks all of that will prove to be problematic for Brendan Rodgers and Celtic.

Yes, the Bhoys have Champions League football to offer, plus it’s Tierney’s boyhood club, but at the age of 27, if he can stay out of the treatment room, then you feel he still has a lot to give in the Premier League.

Kieran Tierney to return to Celtic?

“Tierney is in exactly the same boat,” said Sutton about Celtic struggling to buy him because of his possible transfer fee and wages.

“I suspect he will be back at the club one day but unless it’s some kind of loan deal where Arsenal are feeling generous, then it’s not going to be any time soon.

“Tierney has had some injury problems, but he’s a proven performer at the very top level. He’s done the business in the Premier League and impressed on occasions in Spain last season with Real Sociedad. He’s another one on big money and he won’t be short of offers in England or abroad if Arsenal decide to let him go.”

Kieran Tierney has been unfortunate at Arsenal

You will find that someone like Tierney is still a popular player with the fans and has served them well over the years.

The only issue has been his fitness and injury record. It has seriously hurt his progression and he will be hoping all of the bad luck is now behind him.

Despite all of that, you feel Tierney needs to start a new chapter in his footballing life and get his career back on track.

Arsenal would still be able to generate a strong fee for the player because of his past reputation, which would get him off the wage bill and allow them to use it elsewhere.
