Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal fans won’t have to wait too long for their meeting in the Premier League next season.

The new campaign kicks off in August, with the first north London derby to be played on September 15 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

In recent years, it has been the norm for Arsenal, under the stewardship of Mikel Arteta, to beat their rivals, both home and away.

Ange Postecoglou has the expansive, fearless and 100-miles-per-hour style of play to hurt their rivals, but does he have the ingredients?

This is where a lot matters on who Tottenham buy during the summer transfer window, with one big deal already concluded.

Tottenham secured the transfer of Archie Gray from Leeds United – he comes in to bulk up their midfield and provide another option at right-back.

But how about that much-needed striker? Effectively, Spurs are yet to replace Harry Kane after he left for Bayern Munich last summer.

Perhaps Postecoglou will have that shiny new striker ready for the Arsenal game? Because Gabby Agbonlahor has a suggestion.

The former Aston Villa player was discussing the future of Ivan Toney and how both Tottenham and Arsenal need the player.

Sources have told HITC Arsenal and Tottenham’s transfer stance on Toney, as he enters the final 12 months of his contract.

Whilst Agbonlahor urged Tottenham to ‘go and get him’ because he thinks he is a ‘proper’ player, he raised the issue that he would probably pick Arsenal over Spurs, as he told talkSPORT (23/07/24 at 4:15 pm).

Ivan Toney backed to join Tottenham and Arsenal

“When you watch Arsenal, they can score so many more goals with a proper number nine,” said Agbonlahor.

“Ivan Toney, who is going to snap him up? What is the wait? If I am Spurs, I am getting him. If I am Arsenal, I am getting him. I think he would choose Arsenal over Spurs. But if I am these two clubs, I would go and get him. I rate him highly.

“You are going to get the service as well. How many times have you watched Spurs and you have seen Brennan Johnson getting to the byline and putting crosses in? Toney would be there – he would walk into Spurs. He trots. It just suits them.”

Ivan Toney starts for Tottenham but not Arsenal

Toney missed large parts of the previous campaign because he was banned for breaching betting rules – and that’s probably put on dampener on things because he isn’t coming off a red-hot season.

But if the 28-year-old were to move to either side of north London, then you could argue that he would start for Spurs, but not Arsenal.

Son Heung-min would play on the left, with sources telling HITC about Richarlison’s stance on leaving Tottenham, so if he goes there is an even bigger hole up front.

Plus, Kai Havertz proved a lot of people wrong with his performances in Arsenal colours last term after producing 20 goal involvements.

However, some are yet to be convinced with Arsenal told Havertz and Gabriel Jesus will cost them the Premier League title.
