» » » ’The transfer makes sense’: Agbonlahor urges Chelsea star to leave because of Enzo Maresca

Another day. And another new manager in the Chelsea dugout.

You can’t critique the powers that be at Stamford Bridge for the money they have spent because they have splashed a lot of cash.

But you can question some of their decision-making and whether or not it is going to get Chelsea back to winning trophies again.

Many were left shocked when Mauricio Pochettino left Chelsea after the 2023/24 Premier League campaign had finished, especially given that the team had just started to make progress.

But now the new Chelsea manager is Enzo Maresca and you wonder how much of a say he will have on the deals that are concluded this summer.

It was suggested that one of the reasons why Pochettino left so abruptly was because of disagreements over the summer transfer window.

One man who has been a huge talking point has been Conor Gallagher – who is currently at Euro 2024 with England.

There seems to be uncertainty in the Chelsea hierarchy about handing Gallagher a new contract, sources have told HITC.

And now Atletico Madrid have received a response from Chelsea about signing Gallagher, as HITC also revealed on Tuesday.

Amid the interest from Spain, Agbonlahor has made it clear that Gallagher should leave because that transfer ‘makes sense’, as he told talkSPORT (09/07/24 at 6:35 am).

The former striker also pointed out that the Chelsea academy product doesn’t suit Maresca’s style of play, so it’s another reason why he should leave.

Conor Gallagher urged to join Atletico Madrid

“I think the first reason is financial fair play,” said Agbonlahor on why Chelsea would sell Gallagher. “They have been talking about Gallagher going for the last two windows, haven’t they? I think he is one they need to get off the books to sort their FFP out.

“But as well, the way Maresca plays, I don’t think Gallagher would suit his style of play. He likes to be on the ball, Maresca, and play out from the back.

“If there is one club that suits Conor Gallagher, then it’s Atletico Madrid. With what Simeone’s Atletico Madrid team have done over the years. I used to watch them in the big games against Real and Barcelona. They are physical. They want to get the ball back and press. The style of football they play. A lot of tackling. A lot of, sort of what Gallagher has done when he has been here, giving a lot of fouls away. That’s the Atletico Madrid way. He suits how they play. The transfer makes sense. If he isn’t going to play at Chelsea, why keep him? They have just signed Dewsbury-Hall as well.”

Premier League interest in Conor Gallagher

You have to question, given the number of clubs keen on Gallagher, why Chelsea would want to let him go.

It probably proves to the critics that the new owners prefer the money over keeping their best players.

If Gallagher is sold, then Chelsea would make pure profit because he is an academy player and it would help with Financial Fair Play (FFP) and Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

Several Premier League clubs are keen, including Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa. Ange Postecoglou made some interesting comments about Tottenham’s transfer target at Euro 2024.

You feel whoever signs the player will gain from his qualities and it would be a sale that Chelsea regret in years to come.
