James Maddison has made a claim about the quality of the academy players coming through at Tottenham Hotspur according to assistant manager Matt Wells.

Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur are in for an important season with the North London club failing to qualify for the Champions League last season, despite playing some exciting football.

Spurs have been busy in the transfer window with the Lilywhites signing teenage sensation Archie Gray from Leeds United.

As well as this, Spurs have signed Lucas Bergvall from Djurgardens and Postecoglou also confirmed the club were closing in on signing Yang Min-Hyuk from Gangwong FC.

However, most of the talk during pre-season for Spurs has been about the quality of their academy.

Maddison makes academy player claim

Following the dominant 5-1 victory over Hearts during their opening game of pre-season, much of the talk from the Spurs fans was the quality of academy starlet Mikey Moore.

As well as 16-year-old Moore, Spurs also have promising striker Will Lankshear, who Ange Postecoglou is a big fan of and James Maddison has made a claim about these academy players.

According to Postecoglou’s assistant Matt Wells, former Leicester City midfielder Maddison made a big claim about the quality of the academy players.

“I was speaking with James Maddison, he was saying that he can’t believe some of the talent of our young players,” Wells told Spursplay.

it is certainly an exciting time for the club with Moore, Lankshear as well as new signings Bergvall and Gray, Postecoglou will certainly be loving the quality on show from these youngsters.

Postecoglou has to use talented academy players

The Australian certainly has talent on his hands coming through the Spurs academy but it is key he utilises it.

Moore, 16, has been compared to Lamine Yamal following his performance against the Scottish side but the Englishman’s future is uncertain.

HITC has reported that Moore has interest from Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain but Spurs are confident he will remain at the club.

Handing the talented teenager some first-team gametime next season would surely swing things in Tottenham’s favour in terms of holding onto Moore.
