Eddie Howe has showcased a great skill to improve players during his managerial career and it has been no different at Newcastle United.

When the Englishman walked into St James’ Park, the dark clouds had been lifted when Mike Ashley sold the club to a Saudi-led consortium and the rest was history.

Newcastle have gone from strength to strength since then, including making a return to Europe’s elite competition last season.

One of the main reasons behind that was Howe’s brilliance and his ability to transform the game of certain players from striker-turned-midfielder Joelinton to Jack Grealish’s favourite, Miguel Almiron.

But now the Magpies are preparing for a season without European football, and so far, they have made very few signings, with the summer transfer window set to slam shut at the end of the month.

One man has been tipped to make a transfer to Newcastle and ‘improve’ further under the coaching of Howe.

Sources have told HITC how Newcastle have responded as Crystal Palace rejected a third bid for their central defender, Marc Guehi.

Guehi was a key player for England at Euro 2024, despite Gareth Southgate’s side losing in the final to Spain, with Michael Dawson stating that the Palace man was ‘magnificent’.

And now Dawson has backed Guehi to make the switch to Newcastle by stating, he would ‘improve’ the team and be a ‘great signing’, although, he is ‘surprised’ more teams aren’t in for his signature, as he told Sky Sports News (14/08/24 at 10:30 am).

Eddie Howe backed to ‘improve’ Marc Guehi

“You look at Crystal Palace and the recruitment they do,” said Dawson. “When he got bought from Chelsea for, I think it was £18 million, I looked at it, because I played against Marc Guehi when he was on loan at Swansea, and certain players fit certain clubs.

“Whatever club comes along for Marc Guehi, he will improve them. In the summer, when he was away with England, that was a question mark and a position we looked at. I tell you something, he was magnificent.

“There is no surprise that he is getting linked with different clubs. I am just surprised a few more aren’t involved. If he did go to Newcastle, Eddie Howe would improve him and he will improve the team as well. He would be a great signing.”

Eddie Howe to coach Marc Guehi with England?

Southgate left his post after the final of Euro 2024 and now there is a void to fill, with Harry Redknapp sharing what people have told about England and Howe.

Whether it’s for Newcastle or the Three Lions – or even both – Howe could end up coaching Guehi, either way – Guehi responded to Steve Parish’s comments about his Palace future.

But Newcastle fans would prefer it to be on the club stage because they need defensive cover given long-term injury absentee, Sven Botman, won’t be available.

Even though Newcastle finished seventh last term, they won’t be in Europe after Manchester United’s surprise FA Cup final win over Manchester City.
